I just got my first Ovation and I wanted it to be a good one, so I ordered the 1769-ADII from Amazon, and it just got here today. It's a beautiful guitar and I care fully examined it for any damage or imperfections and when I sighted across the top with one eye closed to see if it was flat, I was amazed to see an unmistakable "dip" between the end of the fretboard and the saddle.
At first I thought I was seeing things, but when I looked at it closer and put a ruler flat against it, there is at least an 1/8" "cave-in" for lack of a better word. I loosened up the strings and put a ruler across the top perpendicular to the strings and there is quite a indention which seems concentrated right around that bottom of the sound hole.
Since I never owned an Ovation before and had never looked at them that close I thought maybe this was something that was normal. I called Ovation and was told that the top should be perfectly flat. It's almost as if the bracing has collapsed right at the bottom of the sound hole.
I'm going to obviously return it for another one, but I can't imagine that it left the factory this way.
Any Thoughts? I can put links to some images if anyone would like to see.

Location: Ohio | You actually donlt buy form Amazon.... That ws supplied through a music store that contracts with Amazon for advertising space.....

Notify the seller and send it back ASAP.
Even if you have to eat the shipping.
You should not have to settle for something you are not 100% confident about.

You already said you were sending it back.

As to how or if it left the factory in that condition is specultive guessing at best.
There are plenty of other guitars out there. |

Ships from and sold by Music Factory Direct. Actually the one I bought was directly from Amazon. They come up as one of the other "buying options". I always buy direct from Amazon when I can. They almost always have the same price and don't charge tax. I also get free 2nd day air shipping as a "Prime" member. |

There are plenty of other guitars out there. Thanks, I wasn't really looking for anybody to talk me into keeping it. I was just curious to see if anyone else had the same experience or perhaps that this was typical of Ovations guitars. I didn't think so, but like I said, I never really looked at the top of one that close before. |

True, 30 days to return with no restocking fees. I ordered another one already and it is out of stock at the moment. It's supposed to get here before the 30 days are up, so I'm going to hold onto this one as long as I can and hope the new one gets here first. It still sounds great even with a whacked top. :) |

Location: Utah | Try humidifying the guitar. If it has been stored in a dry location the top could sink in or worse. |

Obviously, I'm not real impressed with how this guitar was stored and treated. I love Amazon and order from them all the time, but I decided to get one from Sweetwater Sound. They matched Amazon's price with no shipping or tax. They also thoroughly check these guitars out. They seem like a pretty good company to deal with. They also have a 45 day return policy. |

When you get the new one, I highly recommend humidifying immediately if your humidity levels are low or if you leave it in the case most of the time.
I bought mine in 2003 and by 2007 I had to send it in to get the entire bowl replaced. The entire top had caved in bending the neck (in the higher registers) down into the bowl. Fortunately through that problem I got connected with this forum and then connected to Ovation customer support which by the way was fantastic. |

Location: Michigan | My ute has a slight dip in it. I bought it used though. It must have been that way from the factory since the glue is spaced that way. If I got it new I would have replaced it though but for the price I paid I can live with the imperfection. SSEND IT BACK in case nobody else has told you :) |
