I'm considering stripping down and refinishing my Magnum Bass. It is currently the grey burst color and I'd like to change it to the natural wood color. Has anyone here done that yet? I'm looking for any advice or "need-to-know" stuff. I know Woody has done a lot of finish work... any input Woody?

Wear your particle mask...

Once you take it to bare wood just follow any well trod path to refinish. Since it had a color coat you may have to sand deeper and you my find that it is made of more than one board with contrasting grains.

Sand, fill, smooth and shoot...

I actually thought for a moment of having it dipped at a local furniture refinishing shop, and having them shoot the final coat of finish. BUT... then I remembered I have a fretboard and a graphite strip to deal with on the neck. That would probably screw that up. I'll check and see if there's any info written down on the original construction, to find out if the bodies were done with one piece or not.

Well the Magnum I and II manual shows the body as one piece solid honduras mahogany ... sounds promising. Anybody have a Magnum 3 manual? ... never mind... I just found the spec sheet on Dave's web site. A little confusing, in that it says solid maple or spruce. I think that is supposed to be the neck though. 'Guess I'll just have to wait and see.
