| Hey guys,
I have a very embarrassing question to ask. How do luthiers work? How do you find a good one and do you usually drop off you guitar and let them work on it over a period of time or do you just wait for your guitar at the store?
I have a 1778T that I love, but it has developed a weird/annoying buzz when I play certain notes. I can't tell if I'm just not pressing hard enough,..but I really think it's the guitar. The action is relatively high compared to what it used to be and I have fooled around with the truss rod in the past, so maybe that is part of the problem. Or maybe it needs refretting? But to my eye, the fret shows no wear.
I also have this nasty hand sweating problem, so maybe that caused warp-age? Who knows.
I have very limited time to drive back and forth because I am a med student, so I just want to get it right on the first try. I live in the bronx, but may be able to make it out to Manhattan. Got to fix this buzz!
Also hopefully I'll be able to dig up enough money for another guitar .... :] |

Location: Upper Left USA | There should be several Guitar techs or Lutiers in your area. Use some kind of networking to get leads on who is good. ask the local Music stores who they have do their repairs.
You probably need a set up, which can be scheduled with the Luthier.
Also, if you have a chance to attend one of the OFC gatherings there would be several "experts" that could take a look at it. |

What does a Luther do? He or she make's a guitar easy to play for their customers. Any more questions? Oh they also repair other acoustics for a living in New Hartford but don't tell them I told you. |

Location: Louisville, OH 44641 | Keep in mind a 1778T should end up with beautifully low action...at least that's been true of all the 1778T's that I've played. From your description, I'd say your problem is in the guitar...not how hard you are pressing. If it were me, I'd send it to Ovation and ask them to set it up as if it were new. If you use a local luthier unfamiliar with the 1778T's, you may not get that great low action your guitar is known for. Just my opinion. |

| thanks for your responses guys. i might end up sending it to Ovation to take a look. I want the best for my 1778T and I feel like some local luthiers might be unfamiliar...but we'll see. I'm holding out til i get a new guitar because there is now way i can live without a guitar for more than a week. |
