Hey, guys! I am thinking about buying a new guitar and my latest choice is Ovation DJA34-AL. The problem is that I won't be able to try it out and will have to order it online. So could you, please, help me with your opinions on this model (or any other from the demented series)? I am looking for good, deep unplugged sound and a thin guitar neck (for small fingers). What other Ovations would you recommend me in the same price range?

Thank you!

Well... ewwww.

To each his own, I guess. I could find nothing about where this model was built (AL = Alabama? Algeria?) and the only reviews I could find screamed "MARKETING".

Here\'s a beautiful used Elite Special S868 for what you'd pay for the DJ.

When I first read this I searched for where the DJ Ashba series were made...
They are made in China:

Now that I stumbled on to this (and everybody has moved-on from this thread)

Ok, after a very long search I've finally found a decent review, but unfortunately it's in German :D Google chrome translation is quite understandable.

Seems like a very nice guitar to me despite being made in China - I'm not a guitarist though, I'm a vocalist and I need the guitar to accompany my singing. That is why I need a more professional opinion.

I've seen good singers undone by a bad guitar.
There are much, much better Ovation models out there.

Reviews can only help give you a general idea, and the same is true of any advice you might get here. You really need to play one yourself to decide. You said you can't try that model locally, but do you have a store nearby that carries any other Ovation models? I would recommend that you get your hands on them and see if you like he neck/feel/sound of similar models before you order anything online. Better yet, if you can try some at a local Ovation dealer, chances are they could order the exact model you want for you, which would be the safest bet. Someone may correct me, but I think the model you like would be very similar to several of the standard Celebrity models in terms of neck, bowl and sound…

In my opinion the chinese Os are no comparison to the American made ones...I would suggest trying to find a good used American model.

Perfect!

and it would certainly be my choice of the two.

Re-Listed at a Lower Price...
This may not really be answering Chu's questions.
But the general consensus is that if you can get USA for the same price as a Celebrity, you get USA.

Chu wanted a deep unplugged sound ... pointing him to an ssb is probably not an ideal solution here.

I think the the DJ Ashba guiitars are cool. I saw them at NAMM ... the artwork may not be everyone's cup of tea, but it is art after all. If Chu is young and hip, there's nothing wrong with the DJA guitars at all. I believe they would play and sound like the iDea guitar, also made in China, which we've all agreed is a decent entry level guitar given the money. Sounds better than it has a right to. The necks are thin and fast.

I say go for it.

Missed the "deep unplugged sound" as well as the fact that it was an SSB...
Gettin' old sucks.

I agree Bobbo...
Chu: You may have heard the old adage: "opinions are like ........; everybody has one". It's true. If you like it just play whatever floats your boat...and enjoy!
