New Question: What is the best acoustic guitar sound (not necessarily Ov) you have heard recorded on vinyl? I began: "Babe I'm Gonna Leave You-Led Zeppelin

That's like asking who has the best voice.
"Best guitar sound" is fairly dependent on the type and/or style of music being played

IMO, THIS has always been hard to beat...on several levels... And check out her ripping it finger picking and flat. WOOF!

I saw them a while ago and she was playing Gibson or Martin...lacked the punch, although Nancy hasn't lost a thing.

I think it was StephenT who said it best. Good players make bad gear sound good. Bad players make good gear sound bad.

Yeah, that was me Brad and I am pretty sure I stole it from somebody else.

I'm not clever enough to come up with something like that but I am smart enough to repeat it.

My latest theft is:

Write a good song and you wont need to worry about what you record it with. Write a bad song and it wont matter what you record it with.

Jay certainly threw down a gauntlet. Check this out, it is what it is, but it's nice to see the 2078TX in a little different style: www.youtube.com/watch?v=PCxK4-a_PRg

This thread reminds me of a funny story I heard about Clarence Clemons when he passed away a few months ago...

He was recording in London or somewhere and another sax player asked him "Why can't I get the same sound as you? I have the same sax, same reed, playing the same notes?" Clarence looked him over and said "You ain't wearin the right clothes Man." :D

Pretty much anything Michael Hedges recorded would qualify as exceptional acoustic sound imo…

I should also add that I think Nancy Wilson's acoustic opening on Heart's recording of "Crazy On You" is about as good as it gets for acoustic tone.

I read an interview with her where she said she did that recording with a '70's Guild D-40. She also said the action on that guitar was so high it was almost unplayable, but that was what was in the studio and so she went with it.
