Hi,

does the Elite Special S868 have a shim that can be removed. The saddle/bridge is sort of thin unlike the 84 collector.

Even the thin-line p/u's have shims. Take the strings off, carefully pull out the saddle and there should be some in the slot.

You could put some divots in it with pliers. Try your hands or pushing up on the wire from inside.

I usually just slip a toothpick under the edge and lift it out.

My one and only experience with removing shims: I fiddled around for 5 minutes trying to extract it with a long fingernail, while it played "catch me if you can". Then I turned the guitar upside down and shook and it came out in 2 seconds. Make sure you can find it when you use this tactic - don't do it in a really messy area.

THANKS!

The toothpick idea sounds pretty good!

The shims are 32ths right? Can one get 64th shims?

You could try sanding down one that you have with some fine grit sandpaper on a smooth surface. Keep it even and use some mic's or calipers to check the thickness. That's how I fine tune nuts/saddles when I work with them.

Its amazing how much a 32nd effects the action, with one shim my 84 has great action with none it's like a well setup Parker Fly (just remembered i don't have my Fly listed in my sig).

With no shim it buzzes ever so slightly so it started me thinking that a 64th shim might be the answer. Reckon it'll be easier to get some 64th thickness steel and cut it to shape perhaps...
