Location: Boise, Idaho | This is my second try on this topic. It's been so long I forgot how. So this post will be shorter.
My GAS for Vipers peaked when the tuner broke on one of my GSs and the other one needed a truss rod adjustment, so I started looking for a backup for my lessons.
Woody's OFC Fundraiser really got me going. Someone else needed it more, but SWMBO committed to a Viper for Christmas, so I found this substitute. Flawed, but still works, like its owner. |

blend in with a red blanket too much.
A brass nut and a noticeable attempt to blend the paint on the back of the neck makes me think it might have been beheaded at some point, but I couldn't find any evidence under the TRC.
Also, the tone and volume knobs don't seem original, but I try to play them, rather than just look at them and it plays very well. |

Location: Texas | I know you've been GASing for a Viper for a while, glad you found one Mark, congrats! The red ones are more difficult to find, (and they sound better.) ;)
I found some knobs for mine that look pretty close to the originals, but I don't recall the details... I'll try to dig up the info and get it to you.
They're great guitars, those single coil pickups are superb. I think you will be really happy with it. They are yet-another under-appreciated Ovation model.

Location: Boise, Idaho | The knobs on mine ar close to original, but the diameter isn't large enough. The dots on the pickguard are so far away from the knobs, I didn't know what they were at first. If Miles or Mike happen to have a set, I'd be interested. |

Location: Boise, Idaho | I brought it down to my guitar lesson yesterday. We're working on Sultans of Swing and it sounds and plays great. It's not bad looking, either, but it's far from perfect.
So I brought it back to the office after my lesson to show it to some guitar playing coworkers. The first guy starts playing Sultans of Swing on it note for note and I didn't even tell him that was what I was trying to learn. Maybe some sort of omen, but I have a lot of work to do with that guitar to get to his level. He also plays a great golf game. I am green with envy. |

It lookes like the Viper knobs are just a little bigger in diameter than the ViperIII. |

They look like the same size to me, but it's hard to tell from pictures, particularly if, like mine, the knobs aren't original. I saw what I believe is a picture of an original Viper III and the knobs look like the size that I should have on my Viper. The original knobs come very close to the white dot markers on the pickguard. Mine are about 1/4 inch away. |

Location: Florence,SC | Just checked my guitars ... the Viper has the same knobs as the Breadwinner, Deacon and Preacher Deluxe. The Viper III knobs are the same as the Preacher and Magnum II bass. |

Location: The Great Pacific Northwest | I have seen both the standard Viper knobs and the smaller UKII knobs on Viper III's. I'll check the brochures to verify which was more popular, but I'm pretty sure it was the smaller ones. |

Maybe do a little buff job and apply some pearl nail polish to the numbers... |
