Joined: December 2011 Posts: 7 | I have owned a 1982 Collectors Series since about 1992. So when a friend offered me a 1975 Legend 1617.4 c/w original case, how could I resist! The guitar plays well with no fret wear, but has a number of cosmetic 'issues' that I plan to deal with over the next few weeks. I am hoping that fellow members of this club may be able to share some of their experiences and answer my questions. Problem No.1 The top is separating from the bowl over about a 6" length adjacent to the bridge. I plan to clean out the joint and inject an epoxy resin adhesive (coloured with black pigment) into the gap and then clamp it shut......Any comments?

If you don't have the money to have it repaired by the factory as mentioned by Oddball (They do an excellent job with reasonable prices as many here will attest to) I'd say go for it. However, since you are asking members of the board to comment, it appears you may not feel 100% comfortable about it. Are you asking for advice on how to do it properly? The method you have suggested is the way I would do it, but then again, I am not an expert. Therefore I have decided on more than one occaision to send guitars in to the experts.

Joined: December 2011 Posts: 7 | Thanks for the various comments : The Mothership is not an option. I am in the UK, and purchased the guitar after careful consideration of the types of repair/skills required for the restoration. I am 100% comfortable with the proposed 'separation repair' but thought it prudent to invite constructive criticism before proceeding. I will report back on this when completed. I am currently making up a trial mix of epoxy coloured with Lamp Black pigment, and hope to make the glue line at the joint virtually undetectable. I plan to construct a simple jig to apply pressure to the area of repair over the coming weekend, so that this first problem will have been overcome during the following week. The previous owner tried the 'planter' idea, but decided to sell it having found that uncontrolled oscillation in light winds affected plant growth!

Some printers even have a waste toner bottle that is a good, and cheap, source.
