One of my most enduring parenting memories is related to this book. When my then-infant daughter would wake in the middle of the night, and after she had been fed, I would stroll through the darkened house carrying her and her blanket with her little head tucked onto my shoulder while I sang lullabies. I had read this book to her so many times (Even before she could speak, she loved this book.) that I eventually made up a simple melody for the prose. After she began sleeping through the night, I would stroll her to sleep with this tune as it was her favorite and she always asked for it. She's almost four now, and it's been a while since she needed to be sung to sleep. The last time was many, many months ago after a nightmare. Her little brother doesn't care for it as much. He prefers an "Irish Lullaby." But I don't think I'll ever forget singing Good Night Moon. No one's ever heard it except my daughter, my wife, and myself. And occasionally I wonder if I'll ever get the opportunity to sing another child to sleep with it. :)
