I do hold out a bit of hope that she's completely scamming me and I'll get it as a surprise birthday present in August. But I'm not holding my breath. :(

If he does? Then the better half isn't buying it and I am! hahahaa! Otherwise...all the best! Popeye

She, along with my mother, brother, and sister all chipped in and got it for me as an early birthday present. My birthday isn't until August, but we had a cookout for the whole family at our house today and they couldn't wait any longer so they surprised me with it today. And I was surprised! It's gorgeous. It has only a couple of VERY small barely noticable nicks in it, so I'd say it was near-near-near mint. :) It seems the owner of the store bought a lot of guitar CASES from someone and when he picked up one of the Ovation cases he thought it felt kind of heavy. So he opened it up and found a very-little-used black breadwinner inside. The case is nearly as pristine as the guitar. Here's a picture of it from the website of the store: Nylon saddles, toroidal pickups, cable jack on the pickguard. Original electronics seem to work fine, but I'll probably replace the batteries anyway. Serial E1990. I think that would place it around early 1973? Does that sound right? I'm still in shock. It plays like a dream and I don't even know how old the strings are. I'm going to replace them tomorrow and clean it up while the strings are off (not that it needs much cleaning). What should I use to clean the fretboard and the pickguard? I'll take some pictures of my own after the restringing and show it off. What a great day!

Looks like they had already moved the input jack but were still using the first generation pick-up and bridge material.

He found it while buying them and he did pay for the guitar as well as the cases. And yeah, my wife is pretty cool. I'll be keeping both her and the breadwinner for life. :)
