Also the GC057 has an OP4BT tuner/pre-amp. The CC057 has an OP-20 or OP-30 depending on when it was made. So if they are the same price, find out which pre-amp which one has. The OP4BT is just a 3-band EQ with a tuner (kinda like the OP-Pro... But I won't go there). The OP-20 and OP-30 has pre-shape which is a Big difference. I'm not sure, but I think you get a better color selection with the CC... I think the GC only comes in Red, Black and Natural. Both have laminate tops. Did I confuse you yet?

Still got a CS257 (just cuz you can buy a USO nowadays for what I paid for that one  Which kinda prevents me from selling it and getting my money back) But I've become a snob now! Not really, but I've got two guitars coming, which slows me down from purchasing anything else... :( That kinda hurts. But back to the original Question by the Newbie... My GC057 was a nice guitar. I only sold it cuz I got better stuff... and I am sure that the current owner is pleased with it. OH! Newbie... Don't get the Black! All shiny black guitars get pick tracks! So unless you are finger-picking, or very careful, that might be something to consider.

I've found that the preshape on the Op30 and OpPro are just exactly right for most live and recorded performances. But you can get the same results by adjusting the equalizer sliders. The differences between the guitars is minimal as described by Old Man Arthur. I wouldn't be one to say that one model is better than the other. I would expect them to play and sound the same. The difference in preamp is really just personal preference, and that topic is debated regularly on this forum. With a laminate top you probably want to play the instruments to see if there is one that has a better sound. As I understand it, laminate tops can have a bigger difference in sound from guitar to guitar, even if they are identical models. So you want to test drive the one you will take home to be sure it has the best sound of the bunch. I don't know what your price budget is, but if you can swing it, the 1778T is a superb Ovation and they are on a giveaway sale right now. I can't afford any new guitars now, but if I could I would be getting one of the 2778T or 1778T even though I don't need another guitar.
