I believe the 2002 is African Cherry, the 2001 was redwood. But didn't you have one of the 2002's, Tony?

Q: The neck that went on the 2002 with the truss rod ... was that a prototype for the LX series? Or something different altogether ... "thin electric" as they put it.

Oops...hey, this has been one of those days when my sanity is maintained by taking a couple of minutes and playing a guitar.

So, I read 2001 instead of 2002, go to O's site and 2001 picture is dark. Got a big foot but a bigger mouth. Actually, someone on the phone today thought I was a recording.

Anyway, 2001 picture is darker than actual so buy one of Al's 2001's also!!

Yep, had a 2002 until I sent it to Nils...gorgeous guitar. I have seen only a couple of pictures that have been able to capture the top. Even if the color/definition is right, the photo doesn't capture what appears to the eye as depth.

Neck was great, closer to an electric neck. Course, I also like the CL, GC, 2001, Adamas, FD-14, 1763, etc.

I don't see how someone could go wrong with either the 2001 or the 2002. From what Al, Kim, and a couple of others have said - 2002 would be a better guitar if you are carting it around to gigs...redwood top is a little more fragile. Sound on the 2001 makes up for the little extra care necessary.

Tony, from what I hear (from cwk2) the 2001's OP24+ are primo electronics...I guess would have hear both through the same amp to notice the difference...I imagine both the redwood and cherry are laminates anyway...

Steve,

2001 is a solid redwood top; rather than "plywood", I like to call the 2002 "layered."

Both great guitars. And sound/playability is so subjective...

As to pre-amps, I don't do enough to tax any of them (from stacked vol/tone to OP-Pro.) All I look for is to maintain the acoustic sound at a louder volume - kinda basic. Like it/don't like it...no middle, that's why I like Ovation/Adamas.

the 2002 is mesmerizing...my wife had moved it into the living room. when people came over, they just stared at it.

ask Nils, I'll bet it attracts attention.

Back to the question I asked earlier ... given the way Ovation usually debuted new stuff on the collectors editions, is the neck on the 2002 the debut of the ANS featured now on the LX models?

Al, thanks for the info on the 2002..what's your thoughts on the 2001 redwood tops, are they as fragile as the cedar tops are presumed to be?...

I always tell customers of the 2001 to use a sound hole humidifier and detune when the guitar is not in use
