Hi, I was directed here via an ebay auction I'm currently running. Thank you Paul! Please see Ebay item # 3750121148. I'm looking for any helpful info, or new home for this guitar. Thanks for your time. Tom

I was eyeing that on the bay. I am glad that Paul was good enough to refer him our way.

Welcome to the board!.

Just because your new and to be a nice guy I'll give you $100 and pay your eBay costs! :D

That really is a nice looking guitar. I put it on my radar but I hoping for some breadwinners to rise up.

Maybe someone knows a little history here.

Dangnabit! Why couldn't *that* one be the Viper I bought by, er, uh, mistake?! Really, I didn't mean to. Honest. Serious. Why don't you believe me?

:p

That's a nice looking git!

That's what I told him in my original email. But I figured the exposure here couldn't hurt his auction. It is a good looking guitar.

Thanks for extra info folks! I'm thinking maybe this was at the other end of the prtotype spectrum ... as in possibly being slapped together at a final run??? I don't know much about 'The Ovation Story'. But if you look at this web page: updated pics You 'll see picture of the nearly blank serial number area on the neck plate. You'll also see that five out of the six tuners do not have anchor screws! Maybe somebody just was smoking something that day? It does play well, and sounds good too.

If I could make an ebay suggestion, put it back on ebay, place a reserve on it of what you need to get for it, and start the bidding at a buck. It's a good looking guitar. People will bid.

I'll trade you my Viper for it. :)

What's that? No, I didn't think you would...

Seriously, nice looking guitar, put it back up, as Moody suggested.

Good luck with it! I'll keep an eye out. :)

EDIT: I'm at work so I can't go look, but was that a mahogany body?

It's a mahogany body. Ovation made a few of those. I've got one as well.

I knew they had made some mahogany bodied ones. Mine appears to be alder or poplar. It also looks like it's a two piece body with an offset glue line. Were the mahogany jobs one piece?

SB-

That's interesting, as mine has a two-piece body and what appears to be a one piece neck...not counting the maple cap as a second piece.

Let's see ... maybe we can position the Vipers as all one-off, custom hand made guitars. ;) Before you know it, they may all have wooden pickguards hand made in the great Pacific Northwest! Might move the market price in the direction we all hope (not that we'll sell, but every man has his price).

BTW, I watched one Viper like mine on eBay a few weeks back and it ended up selling for something north of $500.

One off, hand made...hrm. I'm getting a vision...W2 has a stack of those hilarious letters of authenticity, and he's making one out for each of us...ooh, it's getting fuzzy here...ah, I guess I lost it. :)

Originally, I figured I'd just flip mine for what I had into it, but now that I've degunked it and brought it back to life, I'm not so sure. I really can't wait to get it finished and hear what it sounds like.

For anybody interested, here's the Viper again, starting bid of $99 and no reserve. Somebody's going to buy a beautiful guitar.

By the way, Bailey, when are you going to post pics of your Viper?
