I just finished recording an ep this past weekend, and was all prepared to lay down my tracks with a beautiful Vox custom 25 I have had for a bit. However, time after time the guitar that won out was a 78 breadwinner i got in a trade a couple of years ago. this breadwinner has been abused: the finish completely stripped, the electronics gutted and replaced, atuning heads replaced, etc... but jeez... I just can't get over how much I enjoy the feeling of playing the damned thing. So, I am selling the Vox and replacing it with another breadwinner for backup. of course, every time I have some money for guitars, I can never find what I'm look ing for. so... does anyone have a breadwinner/deacon for sale? it definitely does not need to be in mint condition, as it will be taken on the road. hardshell case is almost a must. I have positive feedback from ebay and trading instruments at harmonycentral.com. will pay cash or trade (did I mention I have a Vox Custom 25 I need to get rid of? ;) )

I don't think it is Koa but it has some sharp grain!
How is the shipping cost from the Islands? I'm so used to UPS Ground it isn't funny. |

If they are actually different was the later version on the Deacon prefered....or why the switch?

The pickups on the white breadwinner are the early ones; the seller is mistaken about the vintage of the guitar. The smaller humbuckers came later; all our breadwinners and deacons have the smaller pickups for consistency, and I like the sound better, figuring Ovation changed for a reason.

Location: Minnesota | Nice looking Deacon on Ebay! I have the exact same natural finish on the one I own (pic in gallery). Should be alot of action on this one. Just had mine re-fretted at the factory and it plays great. If I had any guitar funds left I would pursue this one so I could have twins! (Of course I'd be well on my way to a divorce, :( well maybe just in the dog house for a good while :D )

I went ahead and bought George's Deacon. Now its just the slow torturous wait until ups brings it 'round. Here's a deacon query i have: does anybody know which was the best bridge assembly for the deacon? the original nylon saddled ovation bridge, the brass saddled ovation, or the ovation/schaller?

Hi Joshua, i have a breadwinner with nylon saddles and big singlecoils, and a limited with brass saddles and humbuckers.
I prefer the limited, it has better sustain and the tone is quite different while plugged-in. Its all to your liking to deside whats the best. My breadwinner sounds cool aswell, and gives me a more singlecoilish sound spectrum. but i just like the limited better. Unplugged the breadwinner sounds way better than the limited. I guess its because there is more wood in the body, and the routings under the pickguard is bigger, giving more open space under the string, making the insrument louder and more resonante than the Limited. Plugged-in its another story, the humbuckers are tighter in a way.
