Please check out the original post HERE! first.

Got a call from Bob (aka RC GREENE) and he wanted me to drop by. I thought he wanted me to take some pics for him. When I walked in he asked if I would help him out. I said "Sure! I'll take some pics fer ya." He handed me the ol' Ovation and a set of strings and asked if I would mind taking her home and find more info and stringing her up.

Ladies and gents, to me that's beyond having Al, Miles, Cliff and especially Tupperware complimenting me on my use of emoticons!

Any and all info would be deeply appreciated. I'll let the 'before' pics do the talkin'...

If ya need more pics, LMK!

I'll stick with my original late 67 to early 68 guestimate on it's mfg time.

It doesn't say "Classic" on the headstock though.

I like the tuners. Only thing I would change the knobs to ebony.

MB ,

From the outside of the bottom of the bowl to the top at the front edge (soundhole side) of the bridge is right at six inches. This is the deepest bowl measurement available.

Is that what you're asking? Or is there a more standard measurement to be made?

Thanx!

Damon ,

No 'Classic' or evidence thereof on the headstock. The serial number reference says the same, '67. Thanx for the link!

Capo Guy ,

I seriously doubt that Bob will change anything on this git (except the strings)!

I would doubt it also.

BTW; Is it a shiny bowl?

I forgot to post the bowl. Not only shiny, but damned near mint! I don't know, and am hoping to find out, about the 'lap grip'. It's perfect. The bowl will buff out near new. What you see in the pic are reflections except for the 'grip'.

Tell Bob I like his guitar and that if he wants some red blanket pictures, he should ship it to me. :D

I have another question though.... case?

Oh great, now I have 'red blanket' envy! :D

Unfortunately no original case. It came with a standard black case with the raised silver 'Ovation' name/logo.

BTW, I've started 'pampering' this oldie and that bowl is turning out awesome. If there wasn't any harddware or strings on it, I'd have to use an anchor; it's soooo light! Unreal...

This model is almost identical to the one at Damon's LINK . The only diff is no side fret marker at the 12th position.

She sure cleaned up nicely. Other than the faded inlaid rosette and three minor checks with the longest at 2 1/2 inches she's in great condition.

I just installed a set of Curt Mangan ball end classical strings that Bob gave me. Gotta let 'em sit and stretch for awhile...

BTW, any ideas of market value? There's not much data out there...

that's a deep bowl. just wondering if it was one of the 4 super shallows made. It's not.

value, 500ish
it's real rare, but it's nylon and straight acoustic

Thanx MB!

BTW, this puppy sounds awesome. The top has really opened up (well, it is over 40 y.o.). Those Curt Mangan strings sound nice also, very balanced.

Do any of our members have this Classic model?
