Should I get a closeout LX or wait for a SuperOvation?

Fleet, in my opinion you should get the 2778LX now for the unbelievable $700 price. The 1778LX goes for nearly double that amount, and it is essentially the same guitar with ebony instead of rosewood fingerboard and bridge, plus the 1778LX has a AA top rather than an A top.

In other words, in a year you will be able to afford the 1778LX, but it isn't nearly twice the guitar. At a difference of $100 or so it might entice me, but the differences are small in how it looks and sounds. If you don't need people to know you got a more expensive guitar, I don't see how the 1778LX is any "better".

Your other option is to buy used. In the same price range, you really aren't going to find anything "better". There are some used guitars out there that are very nice and in the same price range, but none that to my knowledge would blow it out of the water. In a year you might be able to afford a decent used Adamas, but those prices are floating upwards pretty fast.

If you wait, you won't get nearly as much for your money. If I could scrape up the money, I'd be buying several of the on-sale models right now.

If the 2778LX floats your boat, you should pull the trigger and get it. You won't be sorry at this price. That's the bottom line really, it's a great guitar at a remarkable price.

2ifbyC quote - "My joy is adopting a guitar, bringing out the physical beauty and comparing it's tone/playability to the previous one. Can I rank my 'O's in order of preference? Heck no. But I can tell ya that bling is just that!"

There is something to be said for getting an old guitar and cleaning-it-up and tuning-it-up!
Also, I am not sure you will find that "More Expensive" necessarily means "Better"...

BTW Dweezil; My recently acquired S771 is a really, really nice guitar.
As far as I can tell, it just has less shiny stuff.
But this S-series that I got is nice.
As far as I can tell the S868 has single-A Spruce on top, and no Maple inlays, and a Satin Finish...
The 1868 has Double-A Spruce and More pretty stuff. Both have quintad bracing.
So the difference is around Five Hundred Bucks!

One more comment on bling and I'll move on...

My 'grab and let's see if this works' is my '97C (again, thanx TJ!). Umm, let's see... obvious bling?... gold hardware, small inlaid rosette and... noper, nothing else!

But the the craftsmanship, wood, playability, tonal qualities and it's understated eloquence (I'm a PU assy for slotheads) just screams "I'm all yours" and "Never let me go!" I won't!!!
