I have a vintage (70's) Custom Legend ovation model#1719 in awesome condition for sale. I'm a player but not much of a pro with regards to really knowing the equipment. I want to make sure I give out the proper info and also get a good price. Can anyone help?
Thanks

Check the serial number on the inside of the guitar against the reference section at the openning page of this site. That'll tell you when it was built. But from the model number, 1719, I would guess that it was built in the early to mid 80's, not the 70's. I think the "7" denotes the stacked volume/tone control that came in in the early 1980's. I think......

Hi Meow:
Does your guuitar have 12 fretts or 14 fretts to the body? Also, why not post a couple pictures for everyone to salivate over?

1719's were made beginning in 1984. They have the Kaman bar neck and OP-24 preamp.

I don't know what you mean by awesome condition, but the guitar cost about $900 or so new. Value now is $650-$700. Maybe a really mint natural top one could be worth more.

That's a super nice guitar. Why don't you keep it? Even you you could get $700 for it, there's no new acoustic/electric USA made guitar that's equal to it for less than $1500.

Thanks so much for your help guys. Okay, it has 14 frets to the body. The serial # is 369883 which makes it made in 1988 according to the reference section. It's in pristine condition. One small scratch on the front but otherwise no scratches or cracks. It's inlaid with mother of pearl everywhere...no damage to the pearl. the pegs are also mother of pearl.

So, I need to sell it. I was told that it would definitely go for a lot more thatn $700 but I'm not sure. Here are some pics. Will go to ebay but if anyone here is interested, we can talk.

It also comes with the original hard case.

Here are some pics.
Thanks

Also, it has an op 24 preamp...original but still works well.

Dang, why does everything on my short list come up at the same time? Someone buy this and then talk to me after Father's day. That's when my wife says my credit is reinstated after buying a 1624 yesterday.

Okay...I need to sell this so I will probably put it up on ebay shortly. Anyone have an idea of how much I should put it up for? As a buyer, does anyone have any advice on what I should include in the ad?

I really appreciate it!

Take a look at ebay ads from Standingovation and Roundback.

Make sure you have a lot of great, clear pictures and an honest description of any issues.

Starting price is $1 but set your reserve where you want it. Go for a ten or seven day auction that ends on a Sunday evening. Check often to answer any questions and post the answers on the auction. Include your Website (which is very nice) and include something about being a starving Artist working hard!

The tough part is your reserve. It needs to be acheivable but not intimidating. I would go $495.00 and let the market decide it's price.

Include a copy of your CD (I was impressed enough by the sound clips to buy a copy from CD Baby)...the rest of Woody's advice is good.

I like the website also....the couple of teaser shots of the 1719 in the promo video was nice.

I'm really not excited to go the ebay route right now. If anyone is interested, contact me. I would rather sell it here.
Thanks

I'd LOVE to GrabIt, but couldn't possibly swing it right now .. .

Personally, I think you should KeepIt, but I hope you have luck selling it . . .

I agree with not going with eBay now if you don't have to. You may not get more than $650 for it on eBay. If you can wait, keep it posted here for a couple of months. Add a reply every week or so to keep it near the top of the board and to let everyone know it's still available. That's one heck of a nice guitar. Set the price at $750. Give it some time.

A deep bowl CL is on my "short" list, but a 1624 is also and one is on the way. Maybe I'll get a tax refund this year, but I doubt it. More likely the news will be bad and my guitar fund will go to the IRS.
