Location: Chehalis, Washington | I recently purchased a 1994 Custom Legend model 1869, hoping it was the same one that had been stolen from me last December. It turns out it is not the same one, so I'm listing this one for sale here.
Okay, stats are:
* Ovation model 1869 Custom Legend in cherry burst finish, serial #480214, manufactured in Hartford, CT in October, 1994. Originally sold through Spitzer Music, Oakland, Califorina.
* Shallow body, single cutaway
* AAA spruce top, "A" bracing
* Walnut headstock & carved walnut bridge
* Ebony fretboard w/CL diamond-pattern abalone inlays
* 5-piece maple/mahogany neck
* OP-24 preamp with 1/4" out
* Gold Schaller tuners w/MOP buttons
This guitar is in great overall shape. The top is clean, with just a couple small chips in the finsh (NOT in the wood), and some pick scratches and hairline cracks in the plastic covering on the rosette.
It has a nice little belly bulge behind the bridge - just enough so that the top is primed and projects a surprisingly rich, warm tone. In fact, I've played/owned quite a few shallow body Ovations, and this one has by far the best projection and deepest tone of any I've played.
The hardware is all in great shape, and I checked the electronics through our sound system at church, and it punched through loud and clear, with no distortion, buzz, or static at all. I also pulled off all the hardware and removed the saddle, cleaned the fret wires, oiled the fretboard, neck, and bridge, and polished the body clean, and put a new set of .13's on it. It also comes with the hardshell case, which is in incredible condition. This one looks and sounds fabulous.
Now the bad news: the only problem with this guitar is that the fretboard has a small crack in it, under the wire between frets 15 and 16. I'm not sure if it was impacted at some point, or if something else caused the problem, but it basically only affects the low E string - there's a little buzz on that string at about frets 12 and 13, but that's it.
Other than that, the neck appears to be straight and in good shape, and the rest of the fretboard has plenty of wear left in it. I'm not sure what could be done for the crack, but it doesn't seem to affect playability for the rest of the neck at all.
If I don't get any takers in the next week, I'll put this on the bay. For OFC members, I'm asking $625 plus shipping (basically what I paid for it). This one is a serious player, particularly for anyone needing a great-looking guitar to gig with. Let me know if you're interested. |
