Location: On The Fringe Of Ground Zero | Finally, my Ovation 2778LX in New England Burst arrived late this afternoon. The finish is beautiful the set up was great just to my liking! I purchased this model sight unseen from Sweetwater. It was too late for me to call Sweetwater to ask the following question :
In the back of this model there's a circle with a center screw. The circle wasn't closed but opened slightly. What's the purpose of this feature? Thanks!

That round thing with the screw in the middle is the access cover. Since your guitar does not have a center sound-hole, that is how you stick your hand inside to do any repairs. (Or where the Luthier sticks his hands, if you aren't the adventurous-type).
And it Should NOT have been Open when you got your guitar!!
Does the back of your guitar look like this?
Then, this is what it looks like under that cover...
Pictures of yours would would be nice....

Location: Warren,Pa. | I had that guitar with the mid-depth bowl. I loved the finish, but the contour bowl would have made all the difference. I don't think I would have parted with it if it was like yours. Enjoy!

Location: Winter Haven, FL | Congrats on the new guitar. I got my 2778LX from Sweetwater 3 weeks ago and it gets 95% of the lap time around here now...I love this guitar. I hope you enjoy yours as much as I'm enjoying mine.
Check to see if your cover is just off a bit. The screw in the center will allow you to loosen it and adjust it to cover the hole properly. Because the contour around the hole is not uniform all the way around, there is one way that the cover fits best...just center it and turn it to find the sweet spot. |

Location: On The Fringe Of Ground Zero | OMA, thank you! You were right on the money. I got so wrapped up in playing this guitar I didn't notice the cover was askew until I put in back in the case. I was adventurous and I opened up the access port and looked around everything appeared to be connected nothing was loose and the bracing was intact. I think Sweetwater may've checked it out before shipping and didn't tighten the screw. I plugged it in and everything was fine.
