Location: Milwaukee Wisconsin | I recently inherited a 1987 Ovation Collector's series. It was sitting in my mom's closet since 2000 w/o strings. I took it to get some strings put in at a local music store only to be told that the fingerboard needed repairing. Since I don't play guitar, I would like to sell. If you are interested, please email me and I can send you pictures. It's a beautiful guitar. It comes with the Ovation hard case. |

Location: Boise, Idaho | Paul, he sent me some pictures that I'll try to post if I get time tonight. The fretboard on the high E side is lifting, separating from the neck. I've never seen that before. I thought that if his dad bought it new, the factory might fix it under warranty. |

Other than the fretboard, the guitar looks nice, but I don't have a clue about how to fix the fretboard or the cost. |

Location: Tidal Mudflats of Virginia | Just an observation...but, no strings and either temperature or lack of tension caused the neck to pull away from the fretboard? Isn't the tension of the bar always pulling the neck away from the strings to keep the neck straight? |

Location: North Idaho | A convincing example to never remove all the strings for any length of time without releasing rod tension. Is it just the abalone and binding or the ebony as well?

Location: SoCal | Whatever the reason, looks like an expensive trip to the factory. Maybe a replacement neck. Maybe they could repair the neck they took off Moody's.
Course, maybe a little CyA and wood screws would work :eek:
In all seriousness, this could be a VERY expensive project. |

Wouldn't they be able to release the tension, pull the neck and glue/clamp the fretboard back down. There does not appear to be any other issues.
We all know how great Factory neck resets are when we get them back. The guys in CT do this stuff in their sleep. |

Location: SoCal | They wouldn't be able to use the neck off my guitar as I have the headstock of it sitting on my desk.
Offer the seller $500 and budget another $500 for the project. Hope it comes in at $300 and be happy when it costs $400.
What number is the guitar? |

Location: Boise, Idaho | I've suggested to the owner that he check with the factory to see if it was still under the original warranty. I'll see if we can make a deal that works for both of us. If not, maybe someone else on the board would be willing to pay more money or take more risk than I would.
