I recently purchased a 1598 and have come to the conclusion that there is nothing the Hurricane can do that the Adamas can't - except be a pristine Hurricane that makes me smile every time I look at it. I don't know if that's enough to justify keeping it. I paid a premium price for it 3 years ago, and am wondering what it's worth.

SDAA (San Diego Adoption Agency) is looking for a Hurricane. Value is hard to say, totally up to how badly someone wants one. $100. to $1000. would be a good guess. Dave

It's the 8 string version but could easily be converted back to the 12 by restringing. It has 20 years of dust and other assorted funk so would not make the pristeene catregory. I think Dave's guess on the price is correct. Try in the high middle and go from there.

As my guitar teacher said: "that's the prettiest guitar that I can't play that I've ever seen." (he has little sausage fingers and couldn't overcome the narrow nut to save his life.) But I do hear the siren call of an Adamas six string....

On this Hurricane maybe it was lunch time or something. I sent in just my Hurricane neck for re-glossing and new tuners. They returned it beautifully glossed, wonderful new tuners but they had installed a SIX string nut. Obviously that was not going to work. So back it went. A week later I got it back and started stringing it up. Something was seriously wrong. They cut the nut with twelve EVENLY spaced slots. Not courses of 2, but just 12 individual even spaced string slots. It went back again. I was so frustrated that I swore I'd never deal with these jokers again. Of course that was 15 years ago and they have done 100% percent perfect work on dozens and dozens of my guitars since. It's just a funny story. Maybe some of the guys will remember it. Dave

Several have sold for about $500. However, you don't see them on eBay very often. So, I went out and got a 1966-1968 335 style Wurlitzer (by Welson of Italy) for $332.67. Appears very similar...excellent guitar. That era (and manufacturer of Italian guitars was written about in VintageGuitars and FetishGuitars last year. So, unless I see a reasonable price for one, for sale or trade, my Storm series will be short one model. Heck, I got my near-new 6759 Custom Legend for $650, 1659 Custom Legend for $420, etc. Maybe eBay may be the best test? Set a reserve you are comfortable with and test the waters.

I just don't have the same level of GAS that I had last year. Maybe if Mitzdawg provided a detailed description of the condition and provided photos. Is this the original case? Condition, etc., etc. This thread works best when the seller posts a specific price. eBay is an auction and all the seller needs to do is set the minimum price he or she will accept and let it ride.

I found out what the current market is for a mint Hurricane in its original case. I searched long and hard to find a pristine example and I paid a premium price to obtain it. It's a nice player; it still makes me smile to look at it, and while I'll pick up my Adamas when I want to play, I guess I'll keep smiling at it for a while longer. Thanks to all for the responses!
