My advice would be to get whichever one is the easiest to get and then while you are enjoying that one, start working on acquiring the next one. It might take you a couple years but eventually you could get the '08, the UTE and a #47RI and be the envy of the neighborhood!

Your neighbours will just think you're weird, like OMA's friend: "Are those all your guitars?". It might take you a couple years but eventually you could get the '08, the UTE and a #47RI and be the envy of the neighborhood! However, people on this list (me included) would be seriously jealous of anyone who scored the hat trick of fabric tops. Although I think a four-peat would include an Adamas 1 with the broccoli headstock.

I've given up buying guitars since I got my ute - the only one I've bought since was the ute 12. You won't regret the '08 collectors. Everything an Adamas should be and while you see the UTE pop up with regulatory in the "FOR SALE" Section (everybody loves them but seem to sell them anyway), I have yet to see anyone put up an '08 Collectors for sale. Call Al and just do it. Never played an 08 collectors so I can't answer the question, but I'd like to know why people sell their utes.

For me, the UTE was a fab playing and sounding guitar but it just never felt right. Same thing with my Martin 000-28NB Norman Blake. Incredible sounding and playing guitar and everyone who plays it loves it. Just hasn't bonded well with me which is why it is in the "gotta go" pile.

Reason 1) Their home was experiencing unexplained foundation cracks. 2) It frightened the dog. 3) Neighbors complained even when playing unplugged. 4) Some local authorities wanted it deemed a dangerous weapon. 5) It frightened the children. 6) Didn't want to embarass his guitar friends when playing together. And 7).... It frightened them!

Amazing guitar and (again) amazing price. Then the 47RI, then the OFC. Some of us bought all three. (also have three 1687's) I know that I will probably release the U681T at some point, not the 47RI or the OFC. This does not take anything away from the U681T...had to pay a lot more for the 47RI and OFC. In the meantime, I enjoy all three. As to the 2008C, also a superior guitar but four textured top slotheads? If I hadn't gotten the 47RI or the OFC, then the 2008C. Get one (two, three, or all) of the four, fight for it...I don't believe they will be available in the future. Want to buy today? Call Al for a 2008C, nice price, great guitar.

Very different sound and I would love to own both. I guess you could love one much more than the other but to say that one blows the other one away has to be personal taste rather than an objective opinion. Or the view of a truly fantastic guitarist.

Mine isn't, so the OFC and Ute are considerably different at that end of the fretboard. Ute is a 12 fret neck, with more stringlength over the body. The OFC has a deeper bowl. Like comparing a Folklore to a Legend. Different guitars for different styles.

Or the view of a truly fantastic guitarist. Well, I'm not a fantastic player! In fact, less than mediocre at best. But when I sat in front of Temp playing my OFC in Amelia.."it blew me away". He played the crap out of and it just kept on giving. I also agree with Mark, the Ute is a different animal entirely. In fact, much closer to the FD-14 in play and feel. The Fudd is more "wood tone" & mellow, whereas the Ute just shakes the room and your fillings.
