I've been trying different setting for the OP Pro and I found that using the pre-EQ and then settting the mids to maximum and the lows and highs to minimum has a really nice acoustic tone. It sounds good, but I find it wierd because the setting essentially reverses what the pre-EQ is designed to do.

There's an infinite number of settings to be tried. Any other other suggestions for what I can try?

I used to bring up the lows, keep the mids at, well the mid, and bring down the lows. Then I heard Al DeMiola say that he keeps his levels flat, at the mid setting, and son of a gun if he doesn't actually know what he's talking about. I give it just a pinch more bass but that's it.....

Is that with the pre-EQ on or off?

Well, that explains it. No wonder why I never got it right.

With the Pre-EQ engaged, I drop the lows just a bit, drop the mids just a bit more, and raise the highs a little. I'm running into a Genz Benz Shen 60 with the EQ flat.

But then, I like to tweak, so it may be different in 2 weeks.

I always thought with the Pre-EQ off, it completely bypassed the sliders and instead used an internal config custom tuned by diMeola.

As one with not very much experience playing amplified, I always thought that this was something that needed to be tweeked according to the room you're playing in. The acoustics of the room will affect which frequencies carry more and which are absorbed. You then adjust your EQ to lower the dominant ones and raise the absorbed ones until you reach the tonal qualities you want. Unfortunately, if you do this when the room is empty, it will have different qualities when a bunch of people arrive.

Not a problem for me. Everyone leaves when I start playing.

It gives you their settings but you can still tweak them....

The only place I usually play in front of others is in church and they can't leave early because they'll burn in hell if they do. Only problem is, the church is has very lively acoustics when empty and I'm too busy playing when they're there to notice what the acoustics are doing then. One thing I did find out (luckily before church) was that they XLR pumps out WAY more power than the 1/4" slot. I turn my volume down almost to 0 when using the XLR so my buddies' guitars can be heard.

I noticed the volume difference at home. I'm the only one who doesn't leave when I start playing. Someday I'll use those amps and cables I have. Then I'll worry about the equalizer.
