That's a good one - looks almost identical to my '87 1718, and that one is AWESOME!
I need to do a side-by-side with the 1537, but I don't know how it could get much better.
Not a bad price if it's truly mint, but you can probably find better. |

The person from whom Stephen purchased it sent it to the factory and the top, which had a number of varnish cracks, had the top painted and resurfaced. And as always, the factory did a great job.
Differences in burst tops can often be attributed to different people doing the burst. I don't think it's much more complicated than that. |

Not a bad price if it's truly mint, but you can probably find better. I had for a while a 1718 Elite and was able to A/B it with my 1537. To my ear there was a BIG difference in the acoustic tone. Plugged in though, the OP-24 is WAY better than the old FET stereo pre-amp.
The 1718 does have very nice acoustic sound. It just doesn't have the deep overtones in the bass nor the bright overtones in the treble that are the hallmark of the 1537 sound. The 1537 also has much more volume when played hard.
I have also found that there are real variations in the acoustic sound of Ovations of the same model. Some just plain sound better than others. I always think that if someone has one that sounds especially good, it won't be for sale until it starts to get worn out. I'm always sceptical of a 10+ year old guitar that has never been played much.
I paid less than $400 for the 1718. I think that you could do a lot better than this one for the price. |

Location: Hiram, Georgia | Thanks guys for the input on the 1718, sounds like they are want too much for it. I'm mostly interested in unplugged sound, since my LX can more than handle plugged in duty. Thanks again for the benefit of your wisdom and experience.
Holding out for now. |

Location: Chehalis, Washington | I would - I got my 1718 for $375, a bit worn but awesome unplugged sound. Amped, it just dominates! I'd wait for a good deal on a player, not a looker. |
