For Sale: Original 1967 Shiny Bowl Balladeer

Unfortunately it is time to part with one of my most cherished guitars. This is a stock original 1967 Shiny Bowl Balladeer in excellent condition. Why buy a reissue when you can get the real thing for 1/2 the price?

o 3 piece spruce top, no lacquer cracks
o shiny finshed bowl
o 5 piece neck with Kluson tuners
o Balladeer script on headstock
o 5 point rosewood bridge
o inlaid chainlink rosette
o nice low action
o overall excellent condition
o includes hardshell case

$1000. incl. FedEx deleivery w/in USA

Email or PM me if you are interested or have questions.

Boy, GAS is bad this time of year...beautiful instrument, Dave. Definitely on my "must have" list, but I don't think it's on the "can currently afford" one...

How does that shiny bowl sound by comparison to the standard lyrachord?

I do think the bowl makes "some" difference. But to be honest the real benefit of these old original series guitars is that the soundboard seems much more "vibrant", probably because of the X bracing, which is so much better than all that VT crap it's not even funny. This is one I never thought I would sell, but sadly it has sat unplayed for over 9 months. Needs a better home. Dave

You should be ashamed of yourself! You must send it to my house for some TLC before it finds a new home... :D

Next time tell me when you are going to buy a guitar! I've been planning to put this up for sale for a few months. Today I work up 30 minutes before the alarm clock and figured wat the heck, good a time as any to put it out there and get the process started. 99% deposit and I'll be happy to hold it for awhile. The classiest looking O's I have ever seen. I love the understated soundhole rossette and the checking in the wood grain...The factory ought to buy that one back and put it on display for posterity! That has to be unique among Ovation Instruments...a thousand bucks is a steal, if not an insult..

Too late, this one is sold. Actually they've got some nice old ones hanging around the factory already. Not to brag because I own(ed) it, but I do think this one looks especially nice.

Nice guitar, Dave. I imagine the top vibrates incredibly with the age of the wood. I haven't seen a top with that grain configuration in quite a while. Unique is unique as far as cosmetics are concerned, but I wish we all could hear it played...

If my history lesson is correct the wood for that top was purchased to make helicopter parts and was not selected for instrument tops. I'm sure that the RPI and cut at are the same but it was the Stock on Hand at Kaman.

If I wasn't already tapped out on GAS releases I would love to have that one!

Woody is correct. The early wood stock from the copter guys was (?) 7" widths. That's why it took three pieces to make the guitar tops instead of the more traditional two. Dave
