Can't stand to see my buddy playing a POS strat copy. Want to give him a viper or preacher. Looking for a player guitar that functions well with cosmetic damage only. Not looking for a project guitar. If you can part with one for $200, please send me an email (preferably with jpgs). fmaj@earthlink.net Thank you!

I'm afraid that at $200, the cosmetic damage may have to be that the neck's broken in half, but good luck. Let us know if you find one.

Yeah, that's probably just not realistic. I bet you could make some killer improvements to that POS strat copy for a couple hundred, though. A strat doesn't color the sound as much as a lot of guitars. If the neck is straight, try putting some decent pickups in it and see if that doesn't change your life. I'd recommend the Seymour Duncan hot rails humbuckers in a single coil size package if you want to really fatten up the sound. Or get some good fender pickups. If you're not comfortable changing the pups yourself, there are bound to be plenty of area music stores that will do it for you without spending too much money.

Thank you for the Preacher offer, E.Sherman, but seems there is a ceiling to my charitable efforts toward my friend's well [guitar] being. I had picked up both a viper and preacher for sub-$250 on ebay... sure they were a bit rough around the edges, but they sure play sweet. Guess I just got lucky, and I'll keep seeking.

That's the way to do it....have patience and don't get in a hurry. Eventually, a couple will slip through the cracks and you will be able to snap one up in the price range you are looking for.

I'm probably going to be pummelled for saying so, but you can get into a very nice Ibanez in that price range.

"No soup for you! One month!"

Actually, I bought my daughter an Ibanez Bass as a starter. They have some good attributes. For guitars I would prefer to get a Schecter for entry level.

Haven't played Ibanez solids, but their Artcore series is nice.

I got a Viper in good playable condition for under $250 - not much to look at, but plays well. You just have to watch and see.

Yeah. I've got an AFS75T that I really love. Looking forward to hearing how it blends with the Deacon real soon now.

Go for a GS2 or 3 at about that price.

I don't know, that's a pretty good price for a guitar with a beveled headsock...

That's a pretty good price for at least $189 worth of hardware and electronics!!!! not counting the wood. I have never understood how somone can look at a guitar under $200 Assembled in the USA, with Kahler trem, Dimarzio pickup(s) and Schaller machines and still wonder if its worth $200.

That was my thinking. If nothing else it's a made in the US guitar--find me another one for $200 bucks. If nobody else jumps on it, I might buy it myself on principle.
