Location: Keepin' It Weird in Portland, OR | I just got a GC057 (yes, I know it's a Celebrity). The bridge under the B string is canted alittle further south than the rest of the bridge. I've noticed this on photos of other O's, but my 4861 ain't like that.
Why?
I realize that the 2nd string tunes alittle weird, and all that, but...

Location: ranson,wva | compensated saddle would be my first guess. the 2 e string spots are lower than the rest, they look like little triangles. i only own one a/e so i cant give a verry good answer...jason |

But the next question is: Why doesn't my 4861 have one?
The GC057 was made in China.
The 4861 was made in Korea.
[But the 4861 is much older, so this bridge might have been a replacement. Patrick, who sold it to me, was not the first owner.] |

Location: Keepin' It Weird in Portland, OR | Now don't be crude. Yes Jason. But they both have similar bridge pick-ups (I assume). I just haven't taken the new one apart yet. I mean... Like Wow man, it even came with good strings on it. And it is sorta NEW. It is a second (no warranty, allen wrench or manual), but I can't see what's wrong. Ugly grain on the fret-board?
Back to question. The compensated bridge seem common. The 4861 doesn't have one.
Old time design? Lack of foresight? Just Korea-cheap? What? |

Location: Tampa, FL | I believe you will find that all saddles are compensated. Thin saddles tend to do this by mounting the saddle at a slight slant with the bass strings longer and the treble strings shorter. This is an OK approximation but does not consider the difference between wound and unwound strings. The Standard Ovation saddles (with molded wedges) go one step better by taking into account the "step transition" you experience going from wound to unwound strings.
Then again, I could be completely wrong. Wouldn't be the first time. |

Actually I always wondered why some were just slanted and some stepped. Was it just a difference of thought on design, or is it really that different in the intonation? It seems that most of the OP24's have the stepped saddle that I've seen. |

Location: South of most, North of few | I am in the process of installing an op 24+ preamp in my 1115 (courtesy of crimsonlake) and plan to use a thinline pickup, which I ordered from Ovation. It should be here tomorrow (hopefully). I stayed with the thinline so I wouldn't have to route the bridge. I hope this will all work out and soon I will have a 1115/1615. Jason, is that what you mean when you say "thin saddles" ? |
