Location: Louisville, OH 44641 | These koa guitars always look awesome but I'm concerned that the tone won't match the beautiful looks.
Anyone have experience with this guitar?

good to see you post every now and then. you should do it more often! (i should post less, 4 months and i'm quickly approaching the 1K mark!)
i love koa for its sheer beauty and the fact that it comes from hawaii, but it does not resonate quite like the spruces. it is a denser wood. it produces mids and trebles nicely but lacks depth. |

Location: SoCal | I have had the 2006C for a couple of months...only thing I can compare it to is an all Koa Martin that I have (1980)and spruce top Custom Legends back to the shiny bowls.
A lot closer to the spruce - possibly due to the contour bowl. Not sure what it will sound like in a couple of years. It isn't "brite" but good balance from bass to treble. More of the "depth" from a quality spruce top that has mellowed by age. For those that played my early artist, closer to that. Or, my shiny bowl Deluxe Balladeer.
If only one guitar, go spruce. However, anyone that has one - it will become one of your favorites. You can beat on it or finger pick - just a well balanced instrument.
Just make sure that you try one with decent strings. Anything in a store probably has old strings on it since it is a 2006. Mine is an early one (# 007) and the strings were old...new EXP's made a great difference.
Of course, with the VIP-5 pre-amp plugged in, you have a lot of flavors to include the "large diaphram deep cutaway uni-directional composite graphite" the "large diaphram condensor deep non-cutaway AAA spruce", and the "dynamic deep non-cutaway AAA spruce" - Adamas I/II and Custom Legend.
And, it is "purdy" with the Koa and tortoise shell binding. |

Location: SoCal | This guitar only has a Koa top (obviously) - so, reasonable that it would be somewhere in the middle of a Koa and spruce. Add the contour for a little more "punch". |

Location: Phoenix AZ | I have a guitar with spruce top, but has koa back and sides. Makes for a very nice tone. I'm anxious to hear the Lost Arts Vintage Koa Special. Dave |
