Joined: May 2007 Posts: 1 Location: Kamloops, BC Canada | Hi, I am looking to buy an Ovation guitar. I want an acoustic that I can plug in to my amp / PA system. I play and sing in a 3pc band, mostly rock from the 50's to today. Maybe a little country. Looking for "plug-in-able" acoustic. No preferance for built in tuner or not, as I have a Boss TU-15 in my BCB-60 pedal board. I have no idea where to start with an Ovation. I would prefer a "Made in USA" model. I have no clue when I look on E-Bay or Craig's List. At this point the model names and numbers don't mean a thing to me. I have about $1000 to spend. Looking for 2 things...Anyone offering advise, and anyone have an Ovation for sale? Thanks, Keith Kamloops, BC Canada

If you're not so concerned with un-plugged tone, the 1868T is a super shallow bowl. Other than that you're buying bling. The only other thing I would suggest for a gigging musician is a model with one of the top-O-the-line preamps. the VIP-5 has Mic modeling and truly sounds like a mic'd acoustic guitar. The Op-Pro Studio (my favorite) has a built in compressor. Either would help with a more natural plugged in sound.

My advise would be to take your time... learn about Ovations here on the OFC, visit Jerome\'s website, visit Dave\'s website, go to music stores and play some of the different models to get an idea of which bowl depth and features you prefer. Get a good idea of what you want before becoming a buyer. Or just take Fred's advice. Fred, tell Keith about some of the guitars that I have for sale.
