Location: Tennessee | Are you talking about the new ones that are assembled in the USA? Or the older ones? The new ones are really good guitars at a nice price point. The older ones are lam tops and are just ok IMHO (my first Ovation was an USA Ultra). |

Location: Keepin' It Weird in Portland, OR | I guess the three or four that I was looking at are older. Low serial numbers, but I don't know if those serial no. go along with the code OFC has listed.
The ones that I was looking at are acoustic only. |

Location: Tennessee | S/Ns went along with the other USA models when the Ultras were made in the US. The 1312 and 1512 are all right, and they are dirt cheap on eBay. Some times there are closet classics out there. But try to get one with a wooden neck, not the Urelite ones. No way to adjust the foam necks.
EDIT: Serial numbers should be in the 82-84 range. |

I'm guessing that it is a Urelite(?) neck, cuz I don't think that I see any wood grain.
I actually think that I can see the remains of phony wood grain on the neck,
Or is that just dirt? This is what I was looking at
I just need to go to the beach or something...(not happening) |

Location: Tennessee | That's not an Ultra. Strange model number ... 1139 in in the Matrix range, but the charts say it's a Balladeer Special from 80-81. It does look like a Urelite neck, it it's still pre-Ultra. I don;t know much about these guitars ... someone else I'm sure knows more. This may have been some of the production from the Moosup plant. |

Location: Scotland | It's a Balladeer special, which is basically a late-production Matrix with a Urelite neck/rosewood re-frettable fingerboard and a standard headstock rather than the black plastic Matrix version. Around 82/83 they changed the name to the Ultra. Not long after they moved production offshore where the Ultras got conventional wooden necks. They all had laminated tops, but were pretty decent guitars despite that, easily worth the $150 BIN. |

Location: Keepin' It Weird in Portland, OR | That's alright. Somebody bought that :(
while I was busy getting outbid on a 1758
When things turn to dudu, they really du it!
But that's okay. I got a Non-O 12.
And I got the Deep 1112, and I don't have to worry about scratching it.
(I am skeered that if I bump it too hard it will disintegrate...)
But I have other guitars.
And a Celebrity and a Ukulele coming! :D
So There!! :p |
