Location: Chicago | In early May my parents bought me a 1771LX for my birthday. I took it home and noticed that the neck joint was separated a little, so I took it in to where it was bought (Sam Ash) and they sent it out to Ovation to get it fixed. I also told them that there was some buzzing by the bridge, so they should check the bridge and the bracing. I got it back three weeks later and the next was set correctly and the buzz was a little less noticeable. On the receipt (from the Ovation service in CT), it told them to check for buzzing. Since I figured they would have fixed it, I thought that the buzzing was maybe just fret buzz or my ears playing tricks on me. A couple days ago I was convinced that the buzz was for real and I noticed that there was some creaking when I put pressure near the bridge or the top by the sound hole. I stuck a finger in to feel the bracing by the sound hole and I noticed that the brace above (if you were playing it) the sound hole was not set correctly. It makes lots of creaking sounds and you can tell that it is loose. Can I just bring the guitar to a licensed shop in Chicago if one exists? This should be covered under warranty, right? I really don't want to spend all that money (I'm a student and don't have much) to ship it to CT, especially since it was like that when I got it, and the instructions were to check the bracing because it was buzzing. What can I do? I know here at OFC you are very experienced in all things Ovation, so I hope someone on here can give me some advice. Please? I love this guitar but I can't have this problem with the bracing. Thanks in advance! |

Don't they send it back for free?

Sad to say, but my parents never got me a guitar ...
but as to your problem ... you need to do two things:
1)Find someone who plays guitar and ask them what they think is wrong. Maybe somewhere here cand see it. Sometimes we perceive problems that don't exist.
2)Find a tech in chicago who can tell you what's up. Get eyewash on the dude. If there's a problem after these two people see it, then send it back.
As far as I know, the warranty is good for five years. |

Location: Chicago | Thanks for the replies. I am positive that the bracing is loose. I can feel it move and hear it creak when I touch it. I think I'll bring it back to Sam Ash and make them send it back to have the bracing repaired for free. Do you think that's reasonable? I mean, the problem was there when I got it, they couldn't replace it with the same model so they sent it out. I waited almost a month and when I got it back it was as if the bracing issue wasn't even addressed.. Or should I just contact Ovation directly? Thanks again for your suggestions! |

Location: Chicago | Thanks for the input. I will call/email Ovation first to see if I can somehow get it done quicker than 3 weeks, and if that fails I will talk to Sam Ash. I can't think of any reason why either company would not be able to help me out.
Jeff W. - Yes, the guitar was new.
The guitar itself sounds, looks, and plays amazing but I know that the loose brace is nothing but trouble. :( |

Location: Warren,Pa. | It's a shame you or someone you know isn't a little more handy with wood. I realize this is a new guitar and you shouldn't have to be dealing with this, but if it was my guitar with a loose brace I would take out my bottle of wood glue and have it fixed in 5 minutes plus drying time for the glue.
An overnight dry is just easier to deal with than sending your guitar away again. It's a VERY small repair for any guitar tech. Email John or Kim and have a little conversation. Maybe an amicable agreement can be reached.

Location: Chicago | Thanks bauerhillboy. I am wondering, is it really that simple? If all I have to do is put a little glue somewhere I could do that, but I would have more peace of mind knowing that the repair was done somewhere authorized by Ovation to prevent any issues in the future. |

There's another technique where you can use a flexible rod of the correct length pushed between the brace and the bowl. Both are relatively simple, if you you how to do it. |

Location: Lake Hiawatha, New Jersey | I had a bitch of a time finding a local shop that was able to work on Ovation braces due to the round back. One of the shops is an authorized Ovation repair shop. I ended up sending mine to the factory, and they took care of it. I'm sure that they will make it right. |
