If you already have unencrypted files from a DVD, try Super .

I just got my daughter an iPod Classic (video) which needs the files converted before they can be imported to iTunes. The one I got is Any-DVD-converter, which converts just about any video format into whatever format you want (29 bucks for the program, and different downloads depending which video format you want to convert TO). It also takes a pretty good while to convert (compress) a standard lenght DVD movie into an MPEG4 format (+/- 2hours - I just run them while I'm doing other stuff). I didn't look too long, there may be better programs for your specific needs, just type something into google that includes the keywords youre looking for (DVD MPEG4 video converter... etc.) and you should find plenty.

I'm using something called DVD Decrypter to get around the encryption - I tried the link and it doesn't seem to exist anymore.

AMPAS sued and made him take it down. It was (and is) the best decryption tool, also removing region codes. You can still get a copy from certain unscrupulous people (nudge, nudge, wink, wink). For converting between formats (wmv, mpeg, avi, etc.) I've tried and discarded about a dozen programs. Super (link in my earlier post) is the best of the lot, and it's free.

[also Free] [the pop-up said that Super was only for Audio files] Prism did allow me to burn "March of the Penguins" with my Media Center. It would not do that before. Now I can get that movie outta my computer, and keep it on disk. [it is a good movie]

I have tried the Flaskmpeg and for the life of me, cannot get it to convert the selected portion. I set the markers but it just seems to take a selection almost at random.
