Location: SoCal | The last one I saw was identified as made for SamAsh stores, but it did not have a split saddle.
It would be interesting to know if the label inside identifies it as a proto.

Location: CT | A "C" on the headstock for custom shop? it looks like a bigger version of the same open O as in all the inlayed headstock logos. |

Location: Phoenix AZ | I've seen these before, but not with the split saddle. I think Noah is right, it's a Sam Ash special. The top looks kind of nice. Probably sounds like a typical elite. Seller is wrong about it having an LX neck - No Way. Would be a nice pickup for somebody ...

Location: closely held secret | C'mon, Dave... you don't think they would proto the LX neck then wait 10 years before running it in production?
Wonder what pickup they put in it with that saddle. |

Location: Minden, Nebraska | I don't think the seller has all of his facts right, but that is a pretty cool guitar. Maybe it's a custom ordered one-off, made slightly more likely by being in the Nashville area. If it is a limited run for Sam Ash, it must have been a VERY limited run because none of us seem to have seen one like it before. FWIW, I've never seen an Ovation from the factory with a split saddle before. I also wonder what pickup is in it, because the preamp is basic OP-24. I like it! |

| Looks like there's a hole under the battery door. What's that all about?...maybe it actually was some kind of prototype that fell through the cracks. |

| Also, are those the early satin chrome/ebony button Ovation tuners? |

| looks a lot like the way they set up the midi balladeers and legends with the Charvel/Shadow box..
that's where the midi switch on sly's is.
definitely an interesting Elite, and it doesn't quite look like the Sam Ash's I've seen.
would be interested in finding out more on this one.
