You know, you learn something new all the time. I never knew that Ovation built the Matrix in the late '60's.....

...and what a bargain, since they usually "sell for 2k and over"!

PT Barnum would be proud - tho not as much as for that Aussie air guitar.

$2K is right in line with what a '68 Martin, Guild or Gibson will fetch. Why not Ovation?

To be fair, he never said Ovations sold for over 2K. He said guitars from that year sold for 2K or more.

Mine doesn't have any cracks, so maybe I'll put it up for sale.

The broken G string makes this a very rare 5 string model..maybe even owned by Keef Richards.

So... just curious about the true timeline, Matrix guitars were manufactured from around '76 to when?

It's listed in the "Reference" section under "List Prices".

According to the price history spreadsheet, the earliest were the deep bowl 1132 and shallow bowl 1142 in 1976, and the latest were the 1737 and 1738 (12-string) in 1981. I once owned a 1637 from 1980, my first (and only for a long time) Ovation. Nice guitar for the money.

I have an 1981 Model 1738 12 string and I love it. Biggest peoblem is that they are REAllT heavy. Mine has 2 cracks in the finish on top so maybe 1K?????
