Location: Upper Left USA | I have a number of shots in my gallery (I'm lazier than you are) and Dr. Numb-fingers has a semi working circuit board of mine at this time.
Original would be nice and that is a lovely model.
I'll wait for the good Doctor to chime in. Perhaps he could resesitate your cadiver?
Sound wise I prefer a set of Phat Cats and 500K pots but restoration is best.
Let me know if you need to scatter some parts.

It appears that the circuit board has discrete components. A local reputable electronic tech should be able to troubleshoot the problem.
Actually in most cases it is something relatively simple.

I think that Woody's preamp is (mostly) working. The pickup selector switch was gone and had a nonfunctional replacement. I wired the pickups to an ordinary Viper-style switch and tapped directly into the input on the board. Seems to work but not tested in a guitar. Woody told me he wasn't in a hurry so he dropped to the bottom of the customer list. Strange, there's only one customer. I'll get right back on it. Gotta check on the availability of the original switch.

Depends on the problem.
I had one that just wouldn't power up and it was simply a poor battery connection ,the joint looked ok but on test was open circuit.
Some initial conductivity tests are in order.
BTW DrT thats a nice one and the trc?

Location: NW Washington State | James brings up a good point. The battery clips and wires can fail because of tugging and twisting when changing the batteries. If the preamp makes no sound at all, then the battery connections are the place to start. Easy to fix.

Location: Upper Left USA | The Battery connectors are about the only part you can still get at Radio Shack and they are cheap.
I'm a Non-Electricians but I have learned to troubleshoot starting at the power source. In each of the Active Preamps I have handled there is almost always the need to replace a battery lead. Plastic doesn't age well and the more flexible it needs to be the sooner it wears out.
This Tuesday the Celebrity Deacon Proto arrives and prior to sending it on to AJ I will photo it inside and out for curiosity sake.
Then play the snot out of it... cuz I can! |

- I do have switches
- #1 Failure Point is the battery leads
- #2 Failure Point the pots (oddly enough)
- #3 Input Jack / Switch
- #4 Failure point the Transistors (probably due to a failure of one of the above)
Total silence, no clicks, blips, hiss, buzz... I would check #1 and #3, as "most" of the other failures still results in some sort of unpleasant noise, or at least hiss.
The jack "switch" is a real sleeper. Everything from some corrosion to the lead that touches the jack no longer touching the jack, to the little plastic nub that engages the lead just wearing out and no longer helping the lead to make contact. |

I'll definitely check all of these out. #3 could be the culprit. The guitar stopped working as I was pulling out the guitar cable and handing it to my guitar teacher for him to try . As he put his guitar cable in : no sound , it just seemed to cut out and that was the end of the electronics working.
