That guy looks a little young to be the original owner.

Congrats Mike! At the moment, my Patriot is at the factory getting a bone nut and saddle, and I can't wait to get it back. It's the only acoustic-only guitar I own. I always plug in whenever I play out, but at home, I pick up the Patriot a LOT! Custom Legend sound coming from a Folk Americana look, all-in-all a very unique instrument IMHO.

BTW, where are you in SW VA? Most of my family lives there.

Congrats, Mike!

A funny thing happened on the way to the forum, everybody. When Damon first posted this I got the idea to PM everyone who was at the Smokies Jam to see if we could all pitch in and buy this guitar - for Iffy! Since Iffy is our favorite Patriot, we thought to honor him for his service to our great nation with a gift of a Patriot guitar.

I (and neither did anyone else who responded) didn't know or remember that Iffy already had one. I had received commitments for enough to buy the guitar and had contacted Damon to set it in motion when Mike posted that he had gotten it. Poor Mike then read his PMs and was crestfallen. You can imagine how badly he felt.

But no worries, Mike. It was in no way intentional. I (and everyone else) am happy for you that you finally got this guitar that you've been wanting for so long. And, you saved us from embarrassing ourselves :p .

I want to express my deepest and most heartfelt thanks to everyone who pledged to contribute. You reaffirm my faith in the innate goodness of humanity. This truly is a wonderful family.

Happy ending all round!

These are great guitars. A year ago, I had the honor of sitting across from a terrific guitar player (282) for several days while he played one. Wonderful warm sounding instrument (on par with the Lennon). It inspired me to have my old, crap sounding Legend rebuilt (in the works now).

Mikey, you're gonna like this guitar. It's going to convince you that life doesn't just consist of carbon fiber tops and all wood instruments. There's a middle ground that's pretty damned nice....

I just got off of the phone: Ron sent me some pic's of the guitar...I am so excited...and I am so happy that this did not upset the applecart...for some reason, the forums have been unreachable to me for several days and then again this morning for a while...so I did not know what g8r was planning until later...I am so happy it is all working out...and I send my commendations along as well to the group...had I been able to receive PM's, I would have been right along with the plan.

Paul, I have wanted this model since 1977 (yeah I know another Deacon story...but true...) when I saw one while on tour with my band in Mississippi...so elegant and being the partiotic guy I am (former Marine) I thought I should be able to find one....fast forward 31 years...I have seen several nice ones for big bucks on EBay but they were beyond what I had or wanted to pay...and as soon as it gets here, I'll provide a full report w/pic's...this one has all the goodies: COA, owners manual, case key, etc. and looks to be near mint...case has a bit of use but mainly from storage...interior and guitar look new.
I have a few guitars that I am going to sell...some nice pieces at very fair prices...I'll list them here later today for a day or so if anyone is interested before launching them on the bay...

I'm glad it's now a member's guitar. That was the intention of posting it.

Congrats Mike!

Oh my... I'm overwhelmed and humbled by this awesome loving family! What a wonderful and thoughtful plan that was. Actually the best part for me was the "favorite Patriot".

I'm sincerely so glad it worked out the way it did. Everyone was a winner. Mike got his long desired '76, the 'conspirators' got their point across and I'm not totally blathering!

Serge, Jim, et al, you have touched me deeply! My grandest 'reward' is knowing ya'll and being a proud member of the OFC family. Thank you ever so much...

I can agree with that.

Don't worry about blathering, Iffy. I did enough for both of us when it happened to me.

Speaking of...David, would you like to borrow a guitar for awhile? I have one over there on loan to my daughter's boyfriend and probably wouldn't miss another one. I can drop it off at Thanksgiving and have my daughter bring it back over sometime. Let me know your preference, although I won't necessarily honor your first choice.
