There is a 2003 collectors on Ebay that looks nice but, what is so special about this guitar? The sitka top is only AA. Everything about this guitar looks fairly basic. What's the deal? I'm very close to purchasing a C2078 LX custom elite and I'm looking around to see if there is any reason to get anything else. I really like the 2001 collectors with Redwood but will probably go for the custom elite.

Thanks in adavance.

I just looked at the specs of both on the Ovation website...

If the price is about the same, I would get the C2078LX.
It has the OP Studio and a contour bowl and better wood...
(if price is Not an issue, I would still get the Custom Elite)

JMPO :p

[And I'd get the Red Tear Drop if I had the choice]

Call it GAS or whatever you like but, it seems to me, manufacturers think we're all idiots. A little clever advertising and we'll pay a premium. If you put a master grade top on I'll consider it worthy of paying a premium. Really cool inlays help too. AA sitka is a yawner. What is so "collector" about this guitar? Or, more specifically, what is worthy of paying a premium? Not trying to dis anyone on this but I don't get it. It's a tough economy and I'm concerned what my hard earned dollars are getting me.

Maybe they are hoping that you will buy a Collector's just cuz you are a Collector?

Alot of the "State of the Art" doodads that they might put on a Collector's become standard equipment a coupla years later.

The contour-bowl and the OP-Pro come quickly to mind...

What OMA said about the early options on the Collectors is true. The 2003 was the first Ovation with the inlaid epaulets but the bracing is more like the 1537 and less like the LX.

I want one of the 2003's but not at that price.

MWoody,

Checked out the Woody ebay store. Pretty cool Ovation you have there. Had a cool flash back. Back in my Navy days I lived in Port Orchard while we were in drydock. I like those flashbacks. Brings back good memories. I really liked it there.

I find the 03C to be a very confortable to play with it's mid bowl, like it's voice and looks stunning with it's binding and inlaid walnut epaulets.

I can assure you I paid NOWHERE near $999, I would say this one is over priced for the current market

I have and have had a few collectors, for me as a players guitar, i.e. not just a wallhanger, the 03 is "better" than the 84, 93, 01, and 06. It's one of my favourite 2 collectors, the other being the 07.

Just to give you some idea of what you can pick them up for if you're lucky, I got mine for £327 (around $650 at the time) and it's ****MINT****!

Also I would take the AA top thing with a pinch of salt, I would rate it as a AAA+, it's gorgeous!

Handsome guitar!

I prefer the single wood eppies as opposed to the more common 'kaleidoscopes'.
