I have three used, but in great condition, Fluke 85 DMMs with rugged protective housings/probes storage and fresh 9V batteries. The display protective films are still in place. NO test leads are included.

You can download the manual and view the multitude of functions HERE . Just select the "83, 85" download.

I'll ship/insure within the US via USPS Priority for $55. Please add 3% for PayPal.

Miles,

I saw your first post. How many digits is your display? Where is your range switching issue and how many decimal places do you require?

This unit has four digits and will uprange once the max within an auto-range is exceeded, which is normal for most meters.

Three digit display
0.00 - 9.99
10.0 - 99.9
100 - 999

Four digit display
0.000 - 9.999
10.00 - 99.99
100.0 - 999.9

The 'range' button allows you to maintain the next lower resolution.

Does that answer your question?

Alright! One left.

BTW, I'll ship ASAP upon a member's commitment regardless of payment method.

Oh yeah, due to the low pricing, 5% will support the OFC.

The only reason these 85s are available is that at one point my prior management finally heeded my recommendation to obtain a Fluke meter with a 0-20 mA/4-20 mA loop source power within a DMM. Can't remember the model number of the newer one. But it saved us an immeasurable amount of time and efforts in loop calibrations.

These units are above and beyond the generic units that most hobbyists purchase. If your needs are greater than these meters are capable of, then I can't help ya at this time...

I wish I needed one, but I haven't been able to destroy mine yet. Durability is one of the reasons these are popular.

At the other end of the scale, the Harbor Freight multimeter is great- sometimes on sale for $2.99, it's disposable!

I had one of them... There is no way to change the battery, cuz you just buy a new unit.

[I fried-it trying to diagnose a faulty chorus pedal. So I had to buy a new pedal AND a new multimeter. :p ]

Let me guess, reading voltage while in the mA mode? Or your meter had no auto-ranging...

I know of an ex-tech that still has copper freckles after fifteen years due to the former! Thank goodness for safety glasses.

I used the Harbor Freight meter to check the voltage of a car battery a few weeks ago. But I had it set up for the 10 amp DC range. Things got real hot, but surprisingly the meter is still working OK. I need a cheap meter so that I don't destroy the good ones...
