Nope, Not mine...this one is on eBay: \'78 1687-8

Mine is so fine and no doubt this one is as well...Has THE signature inside...

Someone should grab this while it is available and never look back...

Kinda spendy considering the green slimy stuff on the top and the crap on the back of the neck...

????? it's not green; it's yellowed clear and yes, it's been played...
It's a 31 year old 1st year issue one owner classic that could use a little tlc...beauty is in the eye of the beholder and IMHO it's very nice...and worth 3X what the opening bid is...everyday and twice on the weekend...

aside from owning a piece of musical history, what are the advantages of buying the 78, why not
just buy new ?

It's like buying a nice new pair of Levi's jeans vs. the faded pair that you've been wearing for the last 5 years.

I own a reissue and also an original adamas slothead. Sonically they are similar but not identical. Athestically the reissue is perfect. But the original is just "right" for reasons I can't really describe. Some call it 30 years of aquired mojo.

All things being equal I would buy the original 10 times out of 10. However, there is some downside risk. The following "could" be potential issues:

- chipped paint on top
- worn paint on bowl
- noisy or non working electronics
- neck angle set
- worn frets
- worn fretboard
- sticky grimy tuners
- dried out braces and adhesive
- worn saddle grooves
- case handle and latches worn

It's the Mojo...it's all about the collectivity and the Mojo...

- worn frets

- worn saddle grooves

Every one of these potential problems can be fixed by a short trip and stay at the SPA: the Mothership: I.E. The Factory to the newcomers.

By the way, did I mention the Mojo? :D

Bah.....buy a reissue and create your own MOJO!

Then there is no need to send it back to the mothership for a spa treatment.

In fairness it is worth about twice the opening bid. and that is in a decent market. I love these old ones. Especially the #7's but I needed the electronics. I'd hate to buy one of these old treasures and have to modify it at all.
So for me I guess I found I had to go with the "new" market and not the classic. If I was only interested in the acoustics and wanted a nice old classic w/mojo to hang around my neck for a jam, this would be the way to go every time! If your this guy.........Buy it. Great guitars and there are variations in sound from the old to the new. I know.... I have owned both. Acoustically I liked the older ones.
