I think you're right, Jonmark. My 77 Folklore has them. They do get indentations in them, but it's not as big a deal to me as the difficulty in keeping the small strings from slipping.

I think Beal mentioned something about this a few months ago. Maybe the last time we saw a classic with steel strings here.

Anyway, you'd think metal would be more ideal..ring a bit more too. Maybe it was a case of the factory using what it had at the time. I don't remember.

Yep. They used the same tuners for nylon and steel string slotheads until the late 70s or about 1980.
