Location: Jet City | The loudest acoustic I own. A true hand laid deep bowl cannon! I didn't think I'd ever let it go, but well...
The guitar says Deluxe Balladeer, but as you'll see, it has several differences from the DB. The binding on the fretboard, the inlays, etc.
This is the earliest serial number I've seen on one of these and it's at the top of the list on the Ovation Gallery serial list. It has a bracing pattern unlike any other O I've seen. It's a VT style, but different than anything I've seen documented.
This is from '69-'70. It has 2 finish cracks. One comes off the bridge towards the endpin and is roughly 2". The other comes from the endpin area towards the bridge and is about 4". The guitar is in very good shape, especially for being 40 years old. The finish has "antiqued" nicely and looks almost like the nutmeg on the "book" elite, and the JL. There are a few very small nicks and scuffs, but they can't be seen unless you're up close and looking for them. Many OFCers have seen it and had a chance to play it at the NW gathering last year.
One of the neatest things about it is the original case. I's the original Geib style with the blue interior. It's in near perfect shape.
$425 and I'll split shipping. Feel free to hit me up with any questions. I have dozens more images and can send them full size if you like.
Thanks for looking,
Damon

Location: Tennessee | Nice Damon, but I didn't think you'd let that one go. I have one nearly identical, but its about a hundred guitars newer and doesn't have the inscription on the headstock. Mine has the winged bridge ... this one has the newer style; not sure if it came that way or was replaced, doesn't matter. Definitely a cannon ... a very underrated acoustic guitar. These things should be fetching several thousand bucks given what folk are paying for Martians and Gabbys of the same vintage. They are rarer and play and sound every bit as good. IMHO. |
