I love the unplugged sound of my 1537 so I'd like to get another deep bowl or something similar, looking to get something else that I can take camping or whatever, worried something would happen to my 1537 and she's all I got right now. Maybe I just need to go to a music store and sample some low end Yamahas or something?

I don't know if a deep bowl is available, but I think Ovation's best outdoor guitars (other than an Adamas) are the Collector's series with the veneered tops. (02C, 99C, 98C, 92C, others?) But I think they're all mid-bowls right? They might not be the tonal equivalent of a 1537 (not many O's are), but they sound nice and they have New Hartfords best workmanship in them just like all the other Collectors Series.

The only deep bowl veneer top I know if is my Bubinga Custom Elite. And it has a very nice sound either flat-picked or finger-picked.

Dweez, I LOVE that guitar! I almost bid on one once on evailBay, but I resisted. She kind of looks like me:

Hey, guys, please explain to me how a laminated topped guitar would fare better than a solid wood as an 'outdoor' guitar. I would think that a solid wood would be better for an all-around take along, albeit more expensive if you lost it, or whatever. I'm sure you'll enlighten me. Patch, that guitar you're showing here is waaaay too pretty to be dragged and knocked around 'outside'! So is the pretty blue one that Iffy posted ...

"Hey, guys, please explain to me how a laminated topped guitar would fare better than a solid wood as an 'outdoor' guitar."

Willa, laminated tops are physically stronger than solid timber.

An impact or stress can cause splitting along the grain in solid timber, that won't happen to a laminate.
The reason being that when laminates are made the grain does not run in the same direction in each layer.

That's a mid-bowl MOB-47 , also know as 'My Other (surf)Board' due to shape of the sound holes.

I could be talked out of mine. If you're interested, PM me.

You may want to look for a nice Yamaha FG-75. They produce a very nice sound from a compact cheap package. They usually need a bit of set up but nothing that a little filing off the nut and saddle wont take care of. Cheap small and disposable if a disaster strikes.

I have only played one that need to have the saddle dropped and the truss rod tightened a bit but otherwise it was a very nice little git for the $$.

There was an 1860 on the Bellingham Craigslist a few days ago. Asking $400- but I'm sure that the seller bought it from a CL listing @ $200 about a month ago. If it's still around he might be realizing that he's not going to make a quick flip and double his money.

I have a beater 1624 Country Artist that I'd sell pretty cheap, but it's a mid depth nylon string and maybe not what you want. Close enough to deliver though.

You need to score a 1778T in either Pewter, Black or Lusty Red.

Under $500 and tough. Readily repaintable too!

Good deal is relative. If it is in the shape they say I think 600-650 would be reasonable. Compared for what you would pay for a new guitar of that quality...yes I think it is a good deal. I love mine and would easily pay 6-6.5 to replace it if I had to. That said I think I would be suprised if it went for 650 in todays market.

Al(Slydog) Segen has a 1778T-5 LX w/op pro and ohsc in pretty minty almost as-new condition think he wants 550 for it.

also a 1983 1651(Lennon) Legend Limited(player wavy top) stereo, dark nutmeg finish, just got new knobs from JB at the mothership, preamp/pot repaired, no finish cracks, some checking at the frets on neck binding but plays very nice and is a nice boomer legend. includes original ohsc. 500..

check with Slydog on this forum or Al Segen on the Ning site.
