I'm not so sure what is so special about that gold lable, War Eagle, except that it's an older guitar. I buy them to play them, not sell them. I'm sure one of the collector's on this forum can, and/or will enlighten us.

Wow. Never expected it to go that high. There's another CL from the late 70's-early 80's on the 'bay right now going for about $515 with a few days left. I'd bet that that seller is hoping his will go just as high.

But if you want real value and don't need the abalone, look at this Legend

As to the gold label, I would guess that they were used in the early years of the CL's to set them apart, then used again when the 30th Anniversary CL's came out. But that's only a guess......

Iffy,

I just caught up with this thread. I've been on the road visitig family and attending my daughters graduation. I'll be glad when we all get together again!

Anyway, where was this guitar.? If I'd have been in FL, I'd have gone to check it out as I live in Englewood right now.

Will - Sorry I couldn't help out, maybe next time.

Brad,

The store is on the tip of Manasota Key.

Hope ya had a great trip! Looking forward to another 'gathering'.

Now, I wonder if my CL just went up 300% plus. Naw... no gold label... mine's an '85.

Keep lookin' Willa!

I'm looking at several guitars, including a pretty little Taylor acoustic and a few other O's, so we'll see what happens. I'll post photos of my acquisition(s) if and when they happen. I am still waiting for delivery on one. The seller is jerking me around, sending me bogus tracking numbers, etc. It's making me REALLY nervous, really pissed off and REALLY reluctant to buy online again. This guy has a large amount of my money and has neither shipped the guitar or responded to my emails. I have a dispute claim logged with PayPay, but in the meantime, the jerk has my MONEY. At least I have a bunch of lawyers in the family if I need them, haha! I already have a few pretty nice guitars to keep me company in the meantime, so ...

I want to thank all you guys for trying to help me make the right decision. I am still taken aback that Iffy offered to check the guitar out for me ~ what a nice man you are. Thanks again and to be continued! ;)
;)

Hiya Willa,

Check your PM. I've got one you might want nearly as badly as this one. ;)

OK, so I feel bad calling the aforementioned seller a 'jerk'. That was just not a nice thing to do, and I don't want you fellas thinking I'm some kind of cranky beeyatch.

The guitar arrived today and it is PERFECT! The tracking numbers he sent me however, still don't come up with ANY of the main shippers (UPS, USPS, FEDEX, although I now no longer NEED them). I still think the least he could have done was write me an email updating the status of things so I wasn't sitting here wondering...

Come to think of it, sometimes I AM a cranky beeyatch. :(

Photos for the curious and alarmed coming soon ...

What is going on with these things on ebay anyway? The latest one is now skyrocketing but the bidding looks very suspecious to me. Check out the bidders id's. Something seems fissshhhy to me.

Nothing suspicious - those are just automatic bids placed by the eBay system based upon what you enter as your maximum bid. Example - say I place a max bid of $900 for an item on Jun 9 when the current bid is $50, then someone else comes along on Jun 12 and places a bid of $200. The automatic bidding then raises my current bid to $210. The guy sees he's outbid and places another bid at $250, auto-bid then increases my bid to $260, etc. All of my auto-bids still show up as being placed on Jun 9, when I first set my max bid.

A lot of people make the mistake (IMO) of placing the highest amount they're willing to pay as a max bid early in the auction. You get 2 or more people doing that and it drives the bids up to the sky in no time. I usually just watch an item and don't place a bid until the final seconds if the bidding hasn't exceeded what I'm willing to pay.
