Joined: August 2007 Posts: 21 Location: Cleveland | I purchased a few units at a special price and I'm selling them to help offset the cost of the one I'm keeping for myself. I'm offering them here first since I've learned so much from this forum and just wanted to give you guys a shot first. -- Rob

I am looking to upgrade our current JBL MR stuff which is getting way to big for most of our current work. I am looking at the JBL VR series (unpowered) but have no idea how these sound, the type of volume they can produce etc. Nobody local has anything of quality to hear so I'd love to hear from anyone that has some first hand experience with these systems. Thanks

But, as a long-time user of the L1 concept I'd have no problem recommending them for certain applications (note the italics) We have 2 L1 dual bass systems though most of the time we use only 1. We are a trio (occasional 4-piece) and our line-up is 2 vocals, cajon, percussion, and a bunch of stringed instruments including various guitars, lap steel, weissenborn, dulcimer, mandolin, mandocello and acoustic bass. When we carry our own sound we are playing in 80 to 250 capacity venues and have never had a problem with levels using the Bose systems. However, they are completely different to conventional PA systems (i.e. non line-array systems) and should not be compared as such. I know a bunch of people who have bought L1's and ditched them because they expected them to work like a conventional PA system. These people played in rock bands and were attracted by the lightness and portability. As soon as you get drums and electric guitars involved then you need to go down the recommended Bose route and have an L1 for each band member, otherwise stay with regular boxes on sticks and subs. As an acoustic instrument amp, or personal PA for small to medium gigs I have no doubt that the L1 Compact will deliver.

It is a direct competitor to the Fishman SoloAmp. Check out the Bose user forums to see what they have to say about the unit. Bose forum ==> http://bose.infopop.cc/eve/forums/a/frm/f/7521050644
