| I have a 2008 collectors edition... came in today. I have removed all the shims and the pickup/saddle is seated all the way down. The fretboard is flat, any more and it will be bowed backward but yet the action is still higher than my 2007 collectors with 1 thick shim and 1 thin shim. Should I have the bridge routed deeper or just give up and return it? Is this normal for the 2008 ce?

Location: Sydney, Australia | Dantem, hold a ruler on top of the 12th fret and measure the clearance between it and the bottom of the low E string. It should be 3/32". Other people have commented that their 2008C came with a high setup, but they fixed this by removing a shim or two. |

| I'm at 5/64, I just noticed the manual says that 5/64 is the lowest reccomended so I guess I'm ok. Just seems like there should be more room to move lower at the bridge.

Thanks I would have it checked out. That sounds kind of high considering that you removed all of the shims and there is little or no relief in the neck. |

I'm guessing that this is a brand-spankin' New guitar.
If true, I would contact the Factory.
I don't think that you should end-up all the way down to the bottom with No Shims...
I would contact the factory to find an Authorized Ovation shop, and that Ovation (Fender) should pay to have it fixed if possible or give you another Guitar!
I've noticed a disturbing trend...
When I came to the OFC, everybody was saying how Ovations give you consistent quality from guitar-to-guitar, more than any other company in the price range.
Now, I understand the when I score a used guitar that I may have to ask for BFLG help with a set-up.
But I get my Sweetwater T, and it is set-up for bluegrass.
And now we are hearing of Limited Edition guitars that cost thousands coming to dedicated customers in mediocre condition...
Is this a sign of things to come? :confused: |

Location: Lake Hiawatha, New Jersey | From my personal experience with newer Ovations, I would say that the quality is very questionable. I have had braces pop off of two guitars, had to replace the pre-amp in one, and have wiring work done on the other. I take very good care of my guitars, and they are kept at proper humidity levels. If it weren't for the great service by Al and Kim, I would probably have given up on Ovation by now. |
