Well to start off with does anyone use a wah pedal? And which is better a wah pedal like a crybaby or a auto wah like a boss AW-3?

I have a Digitech RP200, which has both. Years ago I had a DOD Envelope Filter (Autowah). I think if it's one or the other, you would prefer the wah pedal over the auto wah. It just sounds more like the guitar is singing/crying. An autowah is kind of like one of those doing doing jaw harps.

Not familiar with the Boss though.

I have two multis with auto wahs, one that can be switched to operate manually with the expression pedal, and a Cry Baby 535Q with the tone selections. I prefer the Cry Baby. It runs on 18v so you'll need a separate power feed on the board, assuming, of course, that your other pedals are 9v or 12v. The Cry Baby is built like a tank and always available on the Bay.

If your foot is co-ordinated a manual wah is always better cause you control the sound.

I have a Cry-baby with the much desired stack-of-dimes inductor that might be available.

Supposed to go to Damon but I haven't heard status lately.

Lets not forget the T-Wah...

I forget which is which between the "Auto" and the "T" but one is a consistent Wah, wah, wah, while the other changes based on attack.

I have as Cry Baby. It's gold and looks good sitting on the shelf.

They are two different things.
Auto-wah is very cool in of itself.
Cry baby is cool, too, when played by someone who knows what they are doing.

I now live without a wah. I say, buy one, then buy the other, then trade them with a friend for another pedal once you get bored.

I have always thought of a envelope filter or follower as a backwards wah rather than an auto-wah. It sounds more like "aaou" than "wah".

It was a birthday present from Jim Dunlop. At the time he said there were only 3 other gold ones, Buddy, Eric and Stevie. Not a bad crowd but I bet their shelves don't sound as good.

Buddy Ebsen is a sure thing, but Eric Stoltz? Beal probably meant Eric Estrada.
