Location: Corning, NY | Not an Ovation, but it reminds me of some of the O hollowbodies...
Here's an odd but fun guitar...neck made by Burns, body by Crucianelli (Did Ovation use them for any of their hollowbodies, too?), then sold under the Baldwin name shortly after their purchase of Burns of London.
Baldwin also owned Gretsch at the time, so the filtertron style pickups are similar (maybe the same?) to Gretsch guitars of that era. This is an earlier one from the first year or two of production (Made in England on label vs. Made in Italy). I believe all of these models were assembled in the US from the finished parts.
Plenty of craquelure thanks to the polyester finish Burns used--it was ok for England but cracked like crazy in the US climate. I have the original plastic chrome-look tailpiece, but not the arm and spring for the vibrato, so it has a Bigsby style vibrato from Greasy Groove that works great. It has significant fret wear, mainly on the first 5 frets, but still plays great and does not fret out anywhere. It also has a Zero fret 22 fret neck. Electronics work very well except the selector switch never full cuts out the neck pickup. The truss rod adjustment uses a geared box under the neck heel plate (16:1 ratio)
The sound of this guitar is very Gretsch-like and country or rockabilly sound really good on it.

Location: Florida Central Gulf Coast | Oh my! That's the same color pattern as my near mint '67 712 (s/n 0188) twelve string. Mine is early enough to have the 'scroll' at the end of the head stock.
I'll have to take some new pics. Lost my ol'ones when my HD crashed.

Location: Corning, NY | I'm guessing the six string headstocks with the scroll ran out in '66. I've seen pictures of one '66 with the scroll. I call this style the toboggan headstock.
Iffy, does yours have the funky "B" tailpiece? |
