For less you could get a Collings archtop, and it would be better. Or any of the many hand builders of archtops.
The reason it was only played "for tuning" purposes is because that volume control in right in the way of everything.
I guess this is the equlivent of "only driven on Sundays to church by a little old lady"

I don't know anything about this model, but my first thought was, "What a stupid place to put the volume knob."

Rich, that is W A Y over my budget. I couldn't see spending that much on any 8 guitars.

If you are interested in Gibson archtop guitars, look at this one for third the price of Gibson Citation. Super V is quite close to Super 400 and Citation.

Simon,

Are you buying this instead of the ES-175?

Due to the fact that it's a Citation (they hardly ever come up for sale), this is a great price...the volume is mounted like this because Jazz and Orchestra players preferred it...that's who commonly played archtops back in their day...since this is a re-issue done in '02, they also copied the way these were set up originally...yes, Collings and others make fine archtops but this is a top of the line guitar and will only increase in value. A beautiful instrument by the top builder at the time for Gibson. Not everyone's cup of tea, but still beautiful!

+1 on Willa's and MusicMike's comment.

Jack: I bid on both ES-175 and Super V but Elderly's would not budge at all. So the search continues.

I had a Citation in the 80's, it got graat gas milage. The volume control was in the middle of the dash.

The stereo sat up and down instead of sideways. My dad was adjusting the volume when we were broadsided. Everyone lived, but it was the only new car he had in his life. Never liked where they put that volume knob.

Hello OFC members,
I am a complete newbie on this site.
I am Liquidating an inventory of well loved Ovations next few weeks, they just don't get the playing they deserve. My fingers just don't have the dexterity they once did, all too common story. Currently listing a mint black 12 string Custom Legend from 1995, on eBay, starting bid 499.99. Guitar Center offered me 300 for this. Here is the link, I am trying to drum up some more interest. I am happy to answer questions about provenance of the guitars - such as I know it!

I also have a vintage red Deluxe Balladeer 1112 with an aftermarket pickup from late 70s, an acoustic only natural wood finish Folklore (1614 I think...gotta double check) from early 80s, a natural wood Longneck (?DS768 I think ) from mid 90s, and an AA13 small steel string 3/4 or junior size acoustic yr. unknown Applause my son and daughter never touched willingly.
I would be happiest to sell these to someone who can appreciate them and give them a little more playing time than I at this stage. I wish my kids were interested, but it has never caught fire for them.
Richard

Welcome aboard, Richard, and good luck with your sales but you might get a bit more interest if you start your own thread in the For Sale section. The link to the auction is a good one and you might want to consider posting some pics of the others.

Richard's just started a For Sale thread and apologized for mis-posting. Sounds like some good items. I just spoke with him and he seems a decent fellow.
