Is there a difference between the black or brown backs on the elite guitars?

OK!!!! Does the color mean anything in the model or options on a guitar.

I don't believe there is any significance.

Maybe Witko, Moody, or CWK2 might have a more definitive answer.

I think I remember CWKII saying, generally, brown bowl=gold tuning machines, black bowl=silver

....and according to Witko, Black bowl with white bowl paint with Sunburst top sound best....

It was just different colored enamel for different levels of guitars. The bowl is exactly the same.

In the mid 70's Legend and Custom Legend they did black bowls on the sunbursts and brown on the naturals. But there were mix ups as well. The bowls are identical in structure. Dave

Actually, the color of the bowl contributes greatly to the bowl's reasonate frequency. It's like using balanced gold washers on your guitar. It all contributes to the overall tone.

Everybody knows that the brown bowls sound better. And the brown bowls from 1983 sound best. It was a good year for brown.

Moody has no idea what he's talking about! To him brown vs. black only depends on what he's had for dinner last night. Dave

Actually,

The brown bowls sound more "organic". The black bowls are for precision performance and power chords (how else could Moody sound so good only knowing three chords??

At a Top (or Bowl) Secret research facility, a Crack(pot)team of researchers....

have been pushing the boundaries (and coming out of the closet) with bold new ideas to improve the sound of these nearly faultless guitars. The team, (code named Fishsticks) was recently caught on film (their identities need to be concealed for allot of reasons, except for the guy in the coconut bra. That's Brad) at a "Drop Point" for their latest project (code named Freddy).

Guys,

This is the "BIG ONE". Readily available (no more hunting around for those rare and elusive string tubes), much safer (no more sniffing white Krylon fumes), Easily installed (ever try to get the top back on corectly after lining the bowl with aluminium foil?). Available in a variety of models to suit your playing style (pictured here is the "blues model"), Now even YOU can change the "orientation" of your unplugged sound by turning it over and gentley screwing it from behind.... :D :p :D :p

No Llamas were harmed in the development or testing of this device, But some sacrifice had to be made so we killed an MOB, and it's better off for it.

I thought the brown guitars were an attempt to find an accoustic equivalent of Eddie Van Halens brown sound!

The reason the brown bowls came about it Glen's mom, when she started working at the factory, made a mistake with the bowl enamel and some bowls came out brown. After trying them, and discovering the better sound, these bowls went on the top quality guitars.

Collectively? I lost my mind individually ages ago. My string tubes just got back from the shop with a complete vers. 2.01b upgrade, and I couldn't be happier with the results.

As far as bowls go, here's the scientific explanation:

1. Black = Bowl
2. Brown = Bowl with paint

Some bowls got paint, some didn't, end of story.

Black v. Brown v. String Tubes

While this does not solve ALL of our problems, the answers we HAVE found only serve to raise a whole new set of questions.

In some ways we feel we are as confused as ever; but I believe we are confused on a higher level and about more important things.

String tubes...now in red, black and brown...see your local store for details...not valid in any of the 50 states...
