I guess I’m a little paranoid I'll screw something up so I may just go to repair guy and have them look at it and then set it up too. I briefly talked to a guy at the local store, He never looked at it, but he said I was playing too aggressively--bull! These fresh signs of wear are not normal and I am not getting aggressive. GC's guy is in on Sat, I bought it there, and maybe it will be a warranty thing? Any recommendations in the Detroit area for a guitar repair guy? Also, how much should it cost for a set up in general? Yes this is sucking mightily!!!!

(some places try to charge that much "plus strings"... if they do, go someplace else!). Unless it's a warranty thing, you're right to ask for a recommendation... there are guys who think they know what they're doing, and then there are guys who really do know what they are doing. Along with a set up, have them check the frets. You might have a raised spot or two (though I'd think that would cause buzzing), or an edge with too much bite.

If you bend a lot you must expect to have to re-string often. You're rubbing bronze or brass, a soft metal against harder steel frets. The alternative is strings of a harder material, but doing so, if harder than frets, results in fret wear. It's cheaper to re-string than to re-fret.. believe me! You can also expect to wear divots in the fingerboard between the frets.. given enough time. I had never bent a string until I took a class once. We leanred to play some Jimmy Hendley or Hindrex or something song. We bent a FEW notes through out the song. Not much mind you. In NO TIME I had worn the brass windings of the D and G strings down to the core. The G string, being the thinnest string (the core is what give it strength and is thinner than the B and e) eventually broke. I had to buy a new G string and eventually whole new set of strings that semester. $7 - $12 for a set of strings once a month or so is tollerably affordable. If you're wearing them out in a week... you're playing A LOT! Congratlations, you get to play a lot! Either way, most people can re-prioritize their budget to be able to afford a package of strings once a week. On the flip side, if you pay somone to do the string changes for you... That DOES add up to a pretty penny! My suggestion: Find the string winder that came with your guitar, buy a wire cutter and learn to do it yourself. The ONLY two solutions to adding life to your strings is to either stop bending OR quit playing.. Neither one a preferred option.

What guitars did you own before this new purchase? How many hours do you practice? Do you play gigs? How often? How long are the sets?
